Updates

  • Today, HPD’s Tenant Engagement and Special Projects Unit hosted their one-year anniversary celebration for the Partners in Preservation program, bringing together dozens of tenant organizations from across the city after a year of advocacy and mobilization 🎉 This HPD initiative directs nearly $5 million towards 21 tenant organizations working to protect tenants from harassment, address building maintenance issues, and prevent unfair eviction threats. The program works to bolster longstanding tenant organizations while fostering spaces for collaboration and coalition building across the city. Congratulations to Partners in Preservation for completing a stellar first year — here’s to many more to come 🥳

  • We’re proud to shout out our mighty HPD Tech Team on their recent Best of New York City GovTech awards! 🎉 In this video, members of the team share what motivates them and what it’s like to build out critical technology in the service of New Yorkers. HPD Tech plays a critical role in how our agency works every day. The team works on everything from developing and supporting the systems that help staff make informed decisions, improving internal processes, and expanding public access to housing data and services. Their work strengthens everything from building oversight to neighborhood-level insights, helping HPD serve New Yorkers more effectively and efficiently. Congratulations again to HPD Tech. From all of us at HPD, thank you for all you do!

  • Another week, another public service shoutout! Thank you to the many teams from HPD’s Offices of Neighborhood Planning, Development, and Intergovernmental Affairs as well as our Deputy Mayor and Commissioners (past and incoming ☺️). Without your dedication to serving New Yorkers, none of what we achieve would be possible. The reactivation of the Just Home program will lead to 100% affordable housing on the site of Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. New Yorkers with serious health issues will receive resources and support as part of this housing initiative.

  • Yesterday, HPD and the Mayor announced the reactivation of Just Home, a 100% affordable housing project on the site of the Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. Once renovated, the building will include targeted support for formerly incarcerated New Yorkers returning home and a partnership with the hospital to connect patients to housing resources as part of their care. 🎥 Watch the full recap to learn more details.

  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, dignity, and equal opportunity, including the fight for fair housing. Passed in 1968, the Fair Housing Act stands as a lasting part of Dr. King’s legacy. Its principles continue to guide HPD’s work today as we preserve and develop housing, protect tenants, and work toward safe, affordable homes across New York. On #MLKDay , we reflect on his commitment as we charge ahead with our goals to improve the lives of New Yorkers across the five boroughs.

  • Achievements like this wouldn’t be possible without the tireless public service of HPD’s Enforcement and Neighborhood Services (ENS) team and Anti-Harassment Unit. This landmark settlement against A&E Real Estate reflects the dedication, expertise, and persistence of staff who work every day to hold bad actors accountable, protect tenants, and improve living conditions across the city. We’re proud to celebrate the ENS team and Anti Harassment Unit for being a driving force behind this work — and for advancing HPD’s mission of safe, dignified housing for all New Yorkers.

  • Part 2: a reflection on public service and the power of this work. In his farewell remarks, Ahmed Tigani shares why HPD’s mission matters. He wove in his own experience navigating affordable housing as a child, and how it shaped his belief in the work this agency does for New Yorkers. A tribute to public service, partnership, and the people behind the mission. Thank you for all you’ve done alongside HPD, Ahmed.

  • Yesterday, we surprised Ahmed Tigani with a clap-out he’ll never forget before he heads off to NYC Department of Buildings 💙 HPD staff filled the lobby to celebrate a leader who earned deep respect, trust, and admiration, not just for advancing affordable housing across the city as Acting Commissioner, but for how he showed up for this agency every day. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for Part 2, showing Ahmed’s farewell remarks — coming next.
