Large, energy-intensive projects like semiconductors, data centers, and hyperscale computing are increasing electricity demand across New York. Our July 2025 Interconnection Queue contains 29 major load projects representing 6,055 MW seeking to connect to New York’s grid. It is NYISO’s role to study these projects to facilitate connection to the grid without harming the electric system. Our planning studies forecast that approximately 2,500 to 4,000 MW of new demand will be on the system by 2035. While these projects create significant economic opportunities, they also highlight the need for additional dispatchable, emissions-free generation to support grid reliability.
