Oklo and Los Alamos National Laboratory conducted a series of criticality experiments to qualify surplus plutonium as a bridge fuel for commercial advanced reactors. Held at DOE’s National Criticality Experiments Research Center, the multi-day campaign produced updated benchmark data for Oklo’s Pluto reactor under the DOE Reactor Pilot Program. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has approved the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis (PDSA) for Oklo’s Aurora Fuel Fabrication Facility at Idaho National Laboratory, clearing the way for facility assembly to begin. This is the first PDSA approval under DOE’s Fuel Line Pilot Program. In early fall, two ARPA-E-funded companies announced that they are moving closer to the goal of economically recycling Used Nuclear Fuel (UNF). Oklo Inc announced plans for a $1.68B advanced fuel center in Tennessee, starting with a first-of-its-kind facility to recycle UNF.
