Steelcase’s “Rethinking the Library for a New Generation of Learners” argues that academic libraries must rapidly evolve from book-centric, silent spaces into dynamic “hearts of campus” that support connection, collaboration, wellbeing, and deep focus for diverse users. Academic libraries are shifting from quiet, book-centric spaces to multiuse hubs that support collaboration, wellbeing, and a strong sense of community for today’s learners. Steelcase Learning’s multi-campus research reveals tension between students’ needs for both deep focus and social connection, and shows that many existing library environments no longer align with real learning behaviors. By integrating social hubs, tech-enabled zones, and flexible study areas, libraries can evolve into adaptive ecosystems that reinforce campus identity and the value of in-person learning. Our One Workplace Learning and Government teams are working on new library community hubs across California and Washington. We're happy to share our learnings. About us
We create spaces that inspire and transform. One Workplace doesn’t just create spaces, we put them to work. We don’t measure them in square feet, but by the possibilities they create for our clients. From a better way to express your culture, to a better way to work, to learn or to heal – the possibilities are endless. Better space always solves a problem. Our solution is simple. We believe together is better. Combining business strategists, designers, furniture, construction, ancillary and audiovisual specialists with project managers, customer support, delivery and installation under one roof simplifies a complicated process - and it makes the workplace better. It’s a unique process, and it’s made us one of the most successful interior solutions companies in the US. Each project starts with collaboration and ends with trust. For us, this is a big deal. Better spaces are built with better relationships - our most valuable assets. That means finding an amazing way to work together with our clients and partners because when we co-create, remarkable things happen. Everything we do links back to one simple philosophy: We’re better together.

This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling deeply grateful — for our teammates, our clients, our partners, and the communities we’re honored to serve. At One Workplace, we believe spaces have the power to bring people together, but it’s the people themselves who bring those spaces to life. Every project, every collaboration, every challenge solved side-by-side reminds us how fortunate we are to work with such thoughtful, passionate, and dedicated humans. To our clients: thank you for trusting us with the environments that shape how your teams work, learn, heal, and connect. To our partners: thank you for your creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment. And to our incredible One Workplace family: your heart, talent, and care make all the difference—every single day. Wishing you and your loved ones a warm, restful, and joy-filled #Thanksgiving. With gratitude.
