🦷🍂 Before You Head Out for Thanksgiving… Don’t Forget These 3 Things We know — your mind’s already on pumpkin pie and travel plans. 🥧✈️ But before you lock up the office and head out for the holiday, make sure these 3 things are checked off your list 👇 1️⃣ Run Your Aging Report Know what’s pending before you go. A quick review of outstanding claims helps prevent any “surprises” when you’re back. 2️⃣ Verify Eligibility for Post-Holiday Appointments Don’t let December start with denials. Verify upcoming patient benefits now — future-you will thank you! 3️⃣ Clean Up Unsent Claims Get those last few out the door. It’s the easiest way to keep your collections flowing even while you’re relaxing with family. Then… close your laptop, grab that slice of pie, and enjoy the break. You’ve earned it. 💛

💛 Friendsgiving Feature: Ray Caruso This season, we’re honoring leaders whose journeys remind us that purpose can be found in unexpected beginnings — and Ray Caruso is one of those rare individuals who embodies grit, clarity, and genuine service. Today, Ray is the CEO of Lone Peak Dental Group, a thriving network of specialty dental practices across the U.S. But his story began far from any corner office — in 1991, when he joined the U.S. Army as a young dental assistant simply looking for a job. He had no idea that decision would spark a lifelong career in dentistry. After serving his country and finishing college, Ray joined one of Heartland Dental’s early offices, working at the front desk. Heartland became the place where he learned the business side of dentistry, sharpening the operational instincts that would shape the rest of his leadership path. His move to DecisionOne Dental Partners as COO opened the door to new opportunities in M&A and change management — experience that prepared him for his next challenge: Lone Peak Dental. There, Ray built the infrastructure and leadership systems needed to grow the organization into a $90M company grounded in consistency, discipline, and strategic clarity. But behind the title, Ray is also: 🚴♂️ A passionate cyclist and skier who makes the most of Colorado’s mountains with his wife and daughters 🧠 A systems thinker who believes the strongest DSOs are built on processes, not speed 💛 A leader shaped by mentors like Donna Weir — who taught him the power of hiring better, sharing knowledge, and never leading through pressure Ray’s view of dentistry is refreshingly grounded: “Find something you’re really good at and do it the best you possibly can. Stay in your lane. Once you have a model that works, stick with it.” Whether he’s guiding practices through acquisitions, navigating shifts in the industry, or helping teams understand when to invest in people vs. processes, Ray approaches leadership with clarity, humility, and a deep respect for the craft of dentistry — a field he now loves not because he stumbled into it, but because it never stops evolving. This Friendsgiving, we’re celebrating leaders like Ray — the ones who build strong frameworks, lift up the people around them, and remind us that dentistry’s future belongs to those who stay grounded in purpose while pushing for growth. Here’s to you, Ray Caruso — for leading with discipline, insight, and heart. 🦷✨

🖤 3 Metrics Every DSO Should Track Monthly You can’t manage what you don’t measure — especially when it comes to the financial health of your dental organization. Here are 3 metrics we recommend every DSO keep a close eye on each month 👇 1️⃣ A/R Over 90 Days — The longer it sits, the harder it is to collect. Consistent tracking helps you spot patterns early and keep cash flow healthy. 2️⃣ Collection Percentage — A true pulse check on your RCM. Are you collecting what you’re producing, or leaving revenue on the table? 3️⃣ Claim Rejection Rate — Small errors lead to big delays. Tracking this metric helps you find and fix recurring issues at the source. 📊 These numbers aren’t just “finance talk” — they’re your early warning system for leaks, lags, and lost revenue. Because when you know your metrics, you don’t just react to your numbers — you lead with them.

💛 Friendsgiving Feature: Dr. Melissa Smith If there’s one thing we love about this season, it’s celebrating the kind of dental leaders who make both their patients and their peers feel seen, inspired, and cared for .....and Dr. Melissa Smith is exactly that kind of person. Practicing since 2004, Dr. Smith is the proud founder of Integrity Dental Group a name that couldn’t be more fitting. She’s known for bringing equal parts compassion, curiosity, and serious energy into everything she does. Her mission? To elevate the dental field with more education, motivation, and integrity, all while helping people understand how oral health connects to overall wellness. She’s passionate about reducing inflammation, improving lives, and bridging the gap between dentistry and medicine — one smile at a time. But here’s what we also adore about her: She once dressed up as Madonna for Halloween. She has a soft spot for hot pickles and spicy margaritas. 🌶️ And she has this effortless way of turning every conference, classroom, or dinner table into a circle of new friends. Dr. Smith reminds us that leadership isn’t just about knowledge — it’s about joy, curiosity, and the courage to bring your full self into your work. Here’s to you, Dr. Smith a true embodiment of integrity, brilliance, and that spark that keeps our dental community growing stronger together. 🦷✨

The Case of the Vanishing Claims It started, as all billing nightmares do… with good intentions. A busy Monday morning. A packed schedule. And one tiny “shortcut” — skipping insurance verification on a few patients who definitely had the same plan as last time. Weeks later, the office began hearing strange noises — the kind only billing teams recognize: 🧾 Claims vanishing into thin air. 📉 EOBs that made no sense. 👻 An A/R report that looked like a haunted forest — full of ghost claims and aging balances. By the time the practice reached out to us, the chaos had spread. Eligibility issues. Wrong group numbers. Coordination of benefits. A full-on billing graveyard. So we stepped in — re-verifying every policy, cleaning up the mess, and chasing down old A/R like professional ghostbusters. 💡 The result? ✅ 90% of claims recovered ✅ Processes cleaned up ✅ A calmer, happier team (and zero hauntings since) This November, we’re thankful for practices that trust us to turn billing horror stories into lessons learned — and for every dental team that refuses to let unverified claims haunt their books again. Let’s keep the scares on the screen and the smiles in your schedule. 🦷💛

💛 Friendsgiving Feature: Dr. Anushka Gaglani We’re kicking off our Friendsgiving series with a powerhouse who’s redefining what leadership looks like in dentistry — Dr. Anushka Gaglani. Co-founder, Co-CEO, and all-around visionary behind Areo Dental Group, Dr. Gaglani has built her career on one big belief: dentistry should feel good — for both patients and the people providing care. From opening her first practice with Dr Abhishek Nagaraj back in 2015 to leading a multi-location group that’s landed on the Inc. 5000 list (multiple times!), she’s made it her mission to turn fearful patients into fans — and to help other dentists, especially women, do the same. Oh, and did we mention she’s currently living in Chicago and pursuing her MBA? Because apparently, she doesn’t believe in slowing down. 👏 When she’s not running Areo or mentoring clinicians, you’ll find her working out, outdoors on adventures, or hanging with her dog and #1 sidekick — Pumpkin 🐶. Here’s to Dr. Gaglani — proving that brilliance, kindness, and ambition can all fit in one dental chair (and one very full calendar). 💅
