👏 Shout out to our fetal echo cardiologist, Dr. Melanie Gropler! Dr. Gropler, Vice Chair of the American Heart Association Young Hearts Early Career and Mentoring Committee, represented our Heart Center at the recent AHA meeting in New Orleans by moderating the Young Hearts Early Career Investigator Award competition — an honor she previously earned in 2021. She also leads as site PI for a multi-center, multi-national fetal study on vascular ring patients. Today we had the privilege of learning from Dr. Tiffany Munzer, whose work at the intersection of digital media and child development is more relevant than ever. As we watched our gorgeous Arizona sunrise light up the sky, it felt especially meaningful to pair such a beautiful start to the day with the important insights she shared. In a world where parents are navigating an overwhelming landscape of technology, screens, and social media, Dr. Munzer’s research is truly invaluable. Her work helps us better understand how to support and counsel families as they make decisions that impact their children’s development, relationships, and well-being. Phoenix Children’s is proud to be one of 42 health systems nationwide to receive a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) award to improve antibiotic prescribing and stewardship. This initiative ensures that evidence-based research moves beyond studies and into practice — where it matters most. Antibiotics are often prescribed for children’s respiratory illnesses when they aren’t needed, or the wrong type is chosen.
