👏 Shout out to our fetal echo cardiologist, Dr. Melanie Gropler! Dr. Gropler, Vice Chair of the American Heart Association Young Hearts Early Career and Mentoring Committee, represented our Heart Center at the recent AHA meeting in New Orleans by moderating the Young Hearts Early Career Investigator Award competition — an honor she previously earned in 2021. She also leads as site PI for a multi-center, multi-national fetal study on vascular ring patients. We’re proud of her leadership and impact at both the national and international level. ❤️ #PhoenixChildrens #HeartCenter #Cardiology #Leadership #ResearchExcellence

🌅 What an inspiring morning at Neuroscience Grand Rounds! Today we had the privilege of learning from Dr. Tiffany Munzer, whose work at the intersection of digital media and child development is more relevant than ever. As we watched our gorgeous Arizona sunrise light up the sky, it felt especially meaningful to pair such a beautiful start to the day with the important insights she shared. In a world where parents are navigating an overwhelming landscape of technology, screens, and social media, Dr. Munzer’s research is truly invaluable. Her work helps us better understand how to support and counsel families as they make decisions that impact their children’s development, relationships, and well-being. I’m so grateful she is here sharing her expertise with us and I’m already looking forward to hearing more during Phoenix Children's Grand Rounds tomorrow! Thank you, Dr. Munzer, for leading the way in this critical area of pediatric research and care. 🌟

If you missed our RN New Grad Open House, check out Keira Counihan RN's recap 👏
It was such a pleasure attending the Phoenix Children's RN New Grad Open House last week! I am incredibly grateful to Rowena McAllister, Andrea Gerhartz, and Melanie Pearson for the time, energy, and heart they put into organizing and leading this event. Additionally, hearing from CEO John Nickens was such a privilege, his presence and encouragement truly set the tone for the day. I loved getting to learn directly from nurses across so many specialties — from Hematology/Oncology and Nephrology to Orthopedics, GI/Endocrine, NICU, PICU, CVICU, and the Emergency Department. Each team shared their patient populations, daily routines, unit culture, and the qualities that help new nurses thrive in their environment. Hearing their experiences gave me such valuable insight and only strengthened my passion and love for pediatric nursing. I’m genuinely excited for the upcoming application cycle and hopeful for the opportunity to grow, learn, and one day work alongside the incredible teams at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. ❤️🩺 #PediatricNursing #NewGradNurse #PhoenixChildrens #NurseResidency #FuturePediatricNurse #NursingJourney #RNNewGrad Shaylie LeBlanc

Phoenix Children’s is proud to be one of 42 health systems nationwide to receive a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) award to improve antibiotic prescribing and stewardship. This initiative ensures that evidence-based research moves beyond studies and into practice — where it matters most. Antibiotics are often prescribed for children’s respiratory illnesses when they aren’t needed, or the wrong type is chosen. Watch Dr. Wendy Bernatavicius explain why she’s not prescribing antibiotics in this case — and how evidence-based care protects children today and in the future. #AntibioticAwareness #ColdandFluSeason

👏 A major milestone for pediatric education and congenital heart care. Dr. Jordan Awerbach has authored the first-ever chapter on Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) in Rudolph’s Pediatrics, 24th edition — bringing this vital field into one of the most trusted resources for pediatricians and trainees. His chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the field, including: - The history of congenital heart surgery - Survival trends and transition to ACHD care - Women’s health and pregnancy considerations - Long-term complications such as rhythm disorders, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and non-cardiac manifestations like Fontan-associated liver disease #PhoenixChildrens #MedicalEducation #CongenitalHeartDisease
