Yesterday I joined our sustainability leads from Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Winter Park Resort , and Steamboat Resort and suppliers like Leitner-Poma Of America at the 5th annual #Ski #Conservation Summit at Copper Mountain Resort. Designed to elevate awareness, forge partnerships, and inspire innovation in conservation, the Summit provided updates from The Nature Conservancy, The Ember Alliance, Adventure Scientists, National Forest Foundation, and various resorts on active projects spanning forest management, revegetation, biochar production, carbon sequestration, citizen science, and more. Having just joined the industry, I walked away encouraged by the on-the-ground work that’s happening and ready to implement more. Thanks to Raj B. and the Copper team for hosting! Fresh off the National Ski Areas Association annual convention where FOUR!!! of our ski resorts took home awards for their amazing work for the mountain environments, communities where they operate, and guests they serve. A HUGE congrats to Boreal Mountain for taking home the Conversion Cup for their work to convert beginner skiers and riders into lifelong enthusiasts and to Hunter Wright for being recognized as the Hero of Sustainability. Copper Mountain Resort took home the prize for Innovation in Sustainability and Mt. Bachelor was honored with the Mountains are for Everyone award for their work on providing guests with an inclusive experience. What an experience it was to participate in the National Park Hospitality Association annual meeting in Washington, D.C. this year – and we are proud that our CEO Justin Sibley has joined the board of directors! The discussions and connections made with fellow concessioners, park partners, and industry leaders were energizing and underscored the vital role we all play in the responsible care and management of America’s public lands. Beyond the conference, we also had the unique opportunity to meet directly with members of Congress and their staff, as well as visit with our friends at Zion Forever Project and the National Park Foundation. Key topics at the forefront of our conversations included the ongoing challenges and possibilities around public land management, workforce development, housing availability in gateway communities, and how the hospitality sector can contribute meaningfully to responsible operations. We left D.C. inspired by the dialogue and optimistic about the collaborative path forward. As we continue to offer the best adventure experiences, we remain committed to integrating stewardship into every facet of our work. We are proud to lend our voice and expertise to the national conversation on the future of our mountains, parks, and public lands.

Fun facts about Death Valley!

The POWDR team recently spent a day up at Snowbird - it was awesome. Blue skies, spring snow, tram laps, and some seriously solid stoke shared with coworkers who often feel more like friends. Whether people were shredding runs, chilling at the tailgate, or just enjoying the mountain air, the vibe was all about having fun and being together outside of the usual routine. Big shoutout to everyone who helped make it happen—it’s days like this that remind us why we do what we do. 👊🚠🍔🏂❄️🏔️

Jawas are passionate scavengers that comb the deserts for scraps to capture and sell. They have a reputation for swindling and selling hastily refurbished equipment and faulty droids. Be warned! Please stay alert and plan accordingly. ⁣ ⁣ Did you know Death Valley National Park stood in for “Tatooine” in several scenes of the Star Wars movie series, including Episode IV -- A New Hope and Star Wars Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi? Today, visitors can tour familiar filming stops at Dantes View, Twenty Mule Team Canyon, Colorful Desolation Canyon, and the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. On any visit to a national park, do as the Jawas do and stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes.
