At The Kensington Falls Church, we had the honor of recognizing one of our own; Cliff Peters, Director of Rehab and retired U.S. Marine. 🇺🇸 Cliff served 10 years in the Marine Corps, enlisting shortly after 9/11. Some rehab journeys are about milestones. Others are about moments that matter. Tom’s was both. After a life-threatening hospitalization for sepsis, pneumonia, multiple falls, and ongoing complications from metastatic prostate cancer, Tom entered therapy with major mobility and safety challenges. At first, he required a wheelchair for all movement and faced repeated setbacks, including recurrent aspiration pneumonia. But step by step, our interdisciplinary team worked alongside him. Speech therapy helped reduce his aspiration signs through targeted swallowing strategies. Physical and occupational therapy rebuilt his strength, balance, and walking tolerance. And Tom brought the determination no one could teach. He regained independence in his Assisted Living Facility, reduced his fall frequency, and was safely discharged. Then came his next mission: walk his daughter Claire down the aisle on October 4th. Not just attend the wedding, walk with her. After a second round of therapy following a kidney stent procedure, Tom trained for the moment like it was his own personal marathon. He practiced the walk over and over, progressing from supported steps to fully independent strides. And on October 4, 2025, he did it. He walked Claire down the aisle, then surprised everyone by joining her for the father-daughter dance. Tom’s perseverance and heart inspired every clinician who walked beside him.
