Building the world’s first useful quantum computers.

About us

Quantum computing will be a world-changing technology with the potential to unlock powerful advances in medicine, energy, finance and beyond. At PsiQuantum, we’re focused on building the world’s first useful quantum computer. A useful quantum computer requires at least 1,000,000 qubits and error correction. We believe photonics is the only path to building a useful quantum computer. Our team at PsiQuantum is a mix of quantum physicists, semiconductor, systems, and software engineers, system architects and more. Error correction is at the centre of everything we do; and we focus on solving real-world problems. If you’re interested in joining our team, we are always open to hearing from exceptional people interested in working on one of the defining technologies of our lifetime.

  • Introducing Omega, the first manufacturable chipset for photonic quantum computing. Designed by PsiQuantum and manufactured at GlobalFoundries, this chipset contains all the advanced photonic components required for million-qubit-scale quantum computers. Featured in a newly published paper in Nature Magazine, every photonic component necessary is demonstrated with beyond-state-of-the-art performance. The paper shows high-fidelity qubit operations, and a simple, long-range chip-to-chip qubit interconnect – a key enabler to scale that has remained elusive for other technologies. The chips are made in a high-volume semiconductor fab, representing a new level of technical maturity and scale in a field that is often thought of as being confined to research labs. • We’ve raised over $1 billion towards our work to build the world’s first million-qubit scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. We are thrilled to have BlackRock, Temasek, and Baillie Gifford lead this round now valuing the company at $7 billion and welcome Macquarie Group, Ribbit Capital, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture arm), Type One Ventures, Counterpoint Global (Morgan Stanley), 1789 Capital, and SVentures (SentinelOne). The round also included participation from existing investors including Blackbird, Third Point LLC, and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. PsiQuantum was founded on the premise that commercially valuable quantum computing requires error correction—and therefore on the order of a million physical qubits. Teams worldwide are now racing to build fault-tolerant systems at this scale, and are increasingly facing scaling challenges of manufacturability, cooling, and networking. PsiQuantum’s thesis is that the unique strengths of photonic qubits, combined with direct leverage of high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, provide a fast path through these barriers. Our teams developed a high-volume manufacturing process for our integrated photonic chipsets—containing all the components required for photonic quantum computing and performing beyond state-of-the-art. Designed by PsiQuantum and fabricated at GlobalFoundries’ Fab 8 in New York, these chipsets now incorporate Barium Titanate (BTO), one of the world’s highest-performing electro-optic materials. PsiQuantum produces 300mm BTO wafers at its California facilities and integrates them with wafers from GlobalFoundries, enabling the ultra-high-performance optical switches needed to scale quantum computing. We have not waited until now to scale. At our labs in the UK and at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, our teams have been testing a new cryogenic form factor that eliminates the chandelier-style fridges and enables hundreds of photonic chips to be cooled within a rack-style system. These efforts are expanding as we bring online our new 130,000 sq. ft. test and assembly facility in the South Bay, where we will build our largest test systems to date and expand production of advanced materials, including BTO. And soon, we will break ground on major sites in Brisbane and Chicago, where we will construct the first million-qubit scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. It is exciting that we live in a world where building giant computers is once more in vogue, but this fundraise also reflects an understanding that growth in conventional computing cannot continue forever — there remains extremely lucrative unexplored territory that will only be captured with quantum computing and we are determined to capture it. • PsiQuantum's partnership with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is critical in our company's mission to build and deploy America's first utility-scale quantum computer. Together, we recently signed a new $31.8 million agreement to continue on-site testing and evaluation under DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative program. By rigorously pressure-testing PsiQuantum's technical roadmap, DARPA has made our company stronger—and our team is looking forward to this next phase of work.

  • At PsiQuantum’s UK R&D facility at Sci-Tech Daresbury, we’re advancing next-generation cryogenic systems and leveraging one of Europe’s largest liquid-helium cryogenic plants. With support from the UK government and in partnership with STFC and the STFC Hartree Centre, we’re proud to be cutting metal — and operating some of the most complex quantum photonic systems in the world — deep in the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution

I'm proud to work at a company that sees the value service members can bring to the table. As PsiQuantum continues to assemble a world-class team around the mission of building and deploying the world's first utility-scale quantum computers, we’re collaborating with Hiring Our Heroes to provide fellowship training for an active-duty, veteran, military spouse, or military caregiver fellow. Our first Hiring Our Heroes fellow, Clare McCarthy, has already hit the ground running with our team!

Illinois’ position as a global leader in #quantum was on full display last week! The #IQMP and our partners were proud to showcase our vision on the world stage through two events: 🇬🇧 Our CEO and Executive Director Harley Johnson, our Business Development Lead/Intersect Illinois Chief Quantum Officer Preeti Chalsani and anchor tenant PsiQuantum’s Co-Founder/Chief Scientific Officer Pete Shadbolt joined a quantum roundtable at the British Consulate with industry leaders, sharing the #IQMP’s mission to develop a first-of-its-kind Park to commercialize and scale up quantum technology. 🇬🇧 Harley joined State Senator Robert Peters, our Community Advisor Shaunna Sims-Davis and PsiQuantum’s Aaron Fluitt and Maurice Green IV to lead the British Ambassador Peter Mandelson on a tour of our future home, Quantum Shore Chicago.
