Two integral projects modernized the core airport systems at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport (LBB) enhancing operational efficiency and reinforcing LBB’s role as a vital regional hub. With growing passenger demand and aging infrastructure straining operations, LBB set out to transform its terminal for the first time in over forty years. RS&H partnered with the airport to deliver the Terminal Building Remodel and subsequent Electrical Grounding and Generator Upgrades, two interconnected efforts that reimagined the airport’s functionality, safety, and long-term resilience. As the prime consultant, RS&H led the terminal remodel, upgrading essential building systems, refreshing interior finishes, and improving passenger flow. Insights from this work revealed the need for comprehensive electrical improvements, prompting a standalone project to replace aging emergency power equipment, strengthen the electrical grounding system, and prepare the airport for future electric vehicle charging capacity. By leveraging analyses from the remodel, RS&H helped LBB secure 83% of project funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminal Program and expedited design delivery by one month to meet critical federal deadlines. The team also reconfigured the generator design to reduce the construction schedule by nearly a year while improving overall system reliability. Together, these completed projects deliver long-term value to the City of Lubbock and the communities it serves. Connecting communities and creating a better tomorrow, together. We are proud to announce the completion of the US 301 interchange project at I-75, a milestone achievement that reimagines the northern gateway to Manatee and Sarasota Counties. This visionary project transforms the interchange into a modern diamond configuration, easing congestion and enhancing safety for all travelers. Key improvements include: ➡️New ramp bridges across the Manatee River, separating interchange traffic from I-75 through-traffic. ➡️Widening of I-75 from the SR 64 interchange to the US 301 approach. ➡️Modifications to US 301 to accommodate the new, more efficient interchange. Through dedicated teamwork and a shared vision with our partners, we have delivered a solution that not only addresses today's capacity challenges but also paves the way for future growth and connectivity. #Transportation #Infrastructure #Engineering #CommunityProgress

We had a great week at the 2025 AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) Annual Meeting, where advancing transportation infrastructure was the focus of every conversation. A highlight for our team was participating in the knowledge session, "Centering State DOT Actions on Safety: Analysis Throughout the Roadway Lifecycle." Moderated by RS&H's Brian Powers, AICP, this was a vital discussion on how nontraditional data and advanced analytics are revolutionizing roadway safety. Key takeaways included: • Agencies are actively looking for and using new technologies to understand and process crash data. • Collaboration between agencies is essential for data sharing and increased understanding of conditions. • Whenever possible, walking assessments should be conducted to identify roadway conditions. • Camera count and AI-aided analysis, such as near misses and desire lines, help identify issues prior to crashes. These methods are particularly helpful for pedestrian and bicyclist movements. We’re leaving this year’s meeting inspired by the incredible spirit of collaboration. What innovations are you most excited about in transportation safety?
