About us

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is an association of local governments in the six-county Sacramento Region. Its members include the counties of El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba as well as 22 cities within these counties. SACOG provides transportation planning and funding for the region, and serves as a forum for the study and resolution of regional issues. In addition to preparing the region's long-range transportation plan, SACOG approves the distribution of affordable housing in the region and assists in planning for transit, bicycle networks, clean air and airport land uses.

  • Big news for housing in the Sacramento region! New 2024 housing data from SACOG reveals: - 12,500 new homes built in 2024, the most since 2005. - More than 4,000 attached units like apartments and townhomes. - Nearly 800 accessory dwelling units (ADUs), the highest ever. While challenges remain, cities and counties have made meaningful progress in efforts to accelerate housing production.   • Earlier this week SACOG staff visited the City of Woodland to learn more about agriculture, housing, and transit in this corner of the region. The day started with a tour of the largest tomato processing plant in the world, at Pacific Coast Producers. It was incredible to learn more about how the facility is providing canned tomatoes to grocery stores around the world, right in our own backyard! Staff received a special presentation from Ian Evans, executive director of the Yolo County Housing Authority who shared their vision to transforms the Yolano Donnelly neighborhood through their Choice Neighborhoods Initiative. Before wrapping up the day, YoloTD executive director, Autumn Bernstein, talked about upcoming intiatives at the agency, like their Active Transportation Corridors Plan. Special thank you to our partners for showing us around, we loved visiting Woodland. It was inspiring to learn more about some of the great projects that happening in this area.

  • The I Street Bridge Replacement Project has been more than a decade in the making, and leaders are celebrating the move forward with a recent award of $25 million from the California Transportation Commission. The new bridge and updates to the existing one will improve connectivity between the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento and stand as an iconic symbol to future visitors and residents of the region.   • The expertise on the Data & Analysis Team at SACOG is crucial in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the region's long-range plan, the 2025 Blueprint. The Director of Data & Analysis will lead SACOG's work to advance the agency's data and analytical functions to meet the region's economic, equity, and enviornmental goals.
