Senator Scott Wiener Visits Lowell High School! SFUSD was proud to welcome Sen. Wiener to Lowell High School to learn more about how school food infrastructure improvements are supporting our students. Senator Wiener joined Lowell’s student council, Superintendent Dr. Maria Su, and our Student Nutrition Services team for lunch and a thoughtful discussion about school meals, local and federal policy, and the importance of investing in healthy school food systems. After lunch, he toured Lowell’s upgraded kitchen — featuring new equipment and SFUSD’s first external walk-in freezer, expanding our capacity to provide fresh, nutritious meals to students every day. ❄️ Thank you, Senator Wiener, for your continued support of healthy, delicious meals for San Francisco students! #SFUSD #SchoolMeals #StudentNutrition #PublicEducation #SanFrancisco

Drop, Cover, and Hold On! Last Friday, SFUSD joined our city partners at Guadalupe Elementary School to mark the anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake with a earthquake drill demonstration. Safety is one of our top priorities, and practicing what to do during an earthquake helps ensure that students and staff know how to respond quickly and stay safe. Events like these also strengthen our collaboration with city agencies and community partners who help us prepare for emergencies together. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped reinforce the importance of emergency preparedness across our schools! San Francisco Department of Emergency Management

🎉 Celebrating the Launch of SFUSD’s Chinese Bilingual Education Initiative 2025! San Francisco Unified School District recently marked an important milestone in our long history as a national leader in language immersion education. The Chinese Bilingual Education Initiative 2025 expands access to high-quality Chinese language programs — strengthening our schools, supporting our diverse communities, and preparing students to thrive in a global society. We’re also proud to be investing in our educators. Through partnerships with San Francisco State University, the Association of Asian American Administrators, and the Association of Chinese Teachers, SFUSD is expanding bilingual educator pathways — including a first-of-its-kind, tuition-free Cantonese bilingual authorization program at SFSU. This launch is just the beginning. Together, we’re building a strong future for Chinese bilingual education in San Francisco. Special thanks to the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and SPARK SF PUBLIC SCHOOLS for sponsoring this meaningful event. #SFUSD #BilingualEducation #LanguageImmersion #PublicEducation

🎉 Congratulations to Guadalupe Elementary School for receiving the Glady Thacher Award at the San Francisco Education Fund’s annual gala! Principal Raj shared these inspiring words about the honor ⬇️ “It was such an honor for our school to be highlighted and to receive the Glady Thacher Award for our achievements: a 19% reduction in chronic absenteeism over the past 2 years, a 26% improvement in Kindergarten STAR standard scores (placing us among the top 5% of schools in the city), and an increase in students’ sense of belonging to 71%. This recognition is not just about a single moment, but about the collective effort, resilience, and heart that each of you brings every day. Our students, families, and staff felt truly seen and celebrated, and that means so much to us as a community.” 👏 A big congratulations to the Guadalupe community for this well-deserved recognition!
