In the months since our neighbors and communities in Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country faced devastating floods, our community stepped forward with generosity, compassion, and unwavering support — thank you! The Shalom Austin Texas Flood Relief Fund received $840,000+ from 3,239 donors across 46 states and Canada. We're pleased to share our Flood Relief Impact Report, which outlines how these contributions were allocated and the difference it made on the ground. Together our community saw that families and individuals received emergency financial assistance, food and essential supplies, temporary housing support, mental health resources, and case management for long-term recovery. Grants from the Flood Relief Fund brought immediate relief to those who lost homes, belongings, and stability — and your kindness continues to help families and individuals rebuild. We are also thankful for Texas Federation partners and the Texas Flood Relief Campaign Allocations Task Force including Steve Johnston, Marianne Rochelle, Courtney Manuel, Phil Loewy, Matt Smith and the team at Shalom Austin. 19 professionals and lay leaders represented Shalom Austin at the 2025 Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly in Washington, DC. We joined 2,000 communal leaders from across North America to learn, engage, and reflect at this defining moment for Jewish life. We spoke not only about the challenges ahead, but also the opportunities — rebuilding Israel, strengthening Jewish security, combating antisemitism, and investing in vibrant Jewish life and identity. The GA opened with testimony from four released hostages who captured both the pain and the hope of this moment. We also heard powerful stories of healing and resilience from Israelis supported through Rebuild Israel, the initiative that stewards the $908 million raised after October 7. Across plenaries and sessions with government officials and activists from both sides of the aisle, as well as journalists, philanthropists, and program officers, we confronted hate while deepening our understanding of the Jewish and Israeli narrative. We engaged in critical conversations about investing in the next generation — from Jewish day schools to camps and immersive Israel experiences — and how to ensure these opportunities are accessible and inclusive. Alongside it all, we celebrated Jewish joy, resiliency and the richness of our traditions. We return to Austin energized and ready to strengthen and sustain our local and global Jewish communities. The 2025 legislative session represented a major turning point for Shalom Austin, ushering in its new Public Affairs department. Following the appointment of the organization’s first Public Affairs Director in May 2024, Shalom Austin significantly increased its efforts to build coalitions, advance legislative priorities, and strengthen ties with elected officials—yielding powerful outcomes for the community. We passed two bills, got $7 million allocated towards our security priorities, and engaged hundreds of Jewish Austinites in taking action.
