I was honored to join the Georgia Chamber of Commerce for the annual Eggs & Issues breakfast this week, bringing together statewide leaders who share the mission of building a stronger, more prosperous Georgia. Georgia Power Company has been a part of that mission for more than 140 years and, as we step into 2026, one thing is clear: Georgia’s future is bright. Georgia is growing, and growth is good for Georgia. At Georgia Power, we are built to serve this unprecedented growth and we’re making sure it benefits everyone. If you’re reading the headlines, you might see a different story – concerns about data centers causing power shortages and increasing power costs. In some parts of the country, that may be something to really worry about. But not in Georgia. At Eggs & Issues, I highlighted the work we are continuing to do at Georgia Power to keep energy affordable for Georgians – freezing base rates through 2028, and planning for additional savings of more than $100 per year for the typical residential customer after that. And I was excited to announce that we’re not stopping there. Next month, we’ll make two more filings which will collectively lower rates starting in June 2026. So, again, when you hear about rising rates or concerns about reliability issues, just remember: NOT IN GEORGIA.

Southern Company is investing in battery energy storage systems (BESS) to ensure reliability during times of peak demand. Alabama Power is leading the way with the state’s first utility-scale BESS facility—150 MW of capacity, enough to power about 9,000 homes. In Georgia, following the construction of its first BESS facility in 2024, Georgia Power has projected 765 MW of new battery storage capacity by 2026. These investments strengthen our grid to provide reliable energy to the customers and communities we serve. ⚡

We’re excited to share that today the Georgia PSC approved a plan that allows us to move forward with procuring ~9,900 MW of diverse, cost-effective generation resources ⚡— powering the energy needs of our growing state. This plan follows the stipulated agreement we recently reached with the Public Interest Advocacy Staff, where Georgia Power agreed to file its next base rate case in 2028 in a way that ensures incremental revenue from large-load customers will provide benefits of at least $556M per year — that’s about $8.50/month (or $102/year) for a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh/month.
