About us
As the non-profit 501(c)3 trade association for the sports events and tourism industry in the United States, the Sports Events & Tourism Association (Sports ETA) is the most essential resource for sports commissions, sports destinations, vendors, and sports event owners. We believe sport tourism and the events that our members own and host have the power to transform society for the better. Our passion is to help sport tourism professionals achieve previously unimaginable levels of performance. We do this by nurturing a community of smart, creative, and interesting people: our members. Our organizational members are sports commissions, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), parks and recreation departments, chambers of commerce, national governing bodies (NGBs), multi-sport organizations (MSOs), and vendors to the sports events and tourism industry. More than 2,500 individuals from more than 800-member organizations lead, manage, and execute sports events of all shapes and sizes - from bowling tournaments to the Super Bowl, and U-12 girls soccer tournaments to the Women's World Cup. Together, they create opportunities for athletes young and old to participate in the sports they love and lead healthy, active lifestyles. Sports ETA is the most trusted resource for sports commissions, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), vendors, and sports event owners. Since being established in 1992, our promise has been to deliver quality education, ample networking opportunities and exceptional event management and marketing know-how to our members, and to protect the integrity of the sports events and tourism industry.

Sports ETA is proud to stand with the U.S. Travel Association and more than 20 national associations in urging federal leadership to delay the proposed Visa Integrity Fee. For the sports events and tourism industry, international access is essential. From upcoming global moments like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, America 250, and the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games to year-round participatory and spectator events, our communities depend on a welcoming, accessible U.S. A $250 fee—the highest visa cost in the world—would undermine our competitiveness, deter millions of visitors, and threaten billions in economic impact for destinations nationwide. We believe the U.S. should be opening more doors, not closing them. #SportsTourism #TravelIsEssential #InternationalTravel #VisaPolicy #SportsETA
Today, alongside more than 20 associations, U.S. Travel urged Secretary of State Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Noem to indefinitely delay the Visa Integrity Fee—which we’ve aptly renamed the “Travel Deterrence Fee” for the millions of visitors it could drive away. At $250, the fee would make U.S. visas the most expensive in the world. With cost already a top deterrent, this risks driving away international travelers just as the country prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, America 250 and the 2028 Olympics. According to Tourism Economics, the fee could slash visitation by 3 million and cost the U.S. $9 billion in visitor spending over three years. We should be rolling out the welcome mat, not raising the price of admission. #TravelisEssential #InternationalTravel #VisaPolicy
