New Water Quality Lab Just Opened in South San Diego! 💧🧪 The new lab is a collaborative effort between our San Diego Chapter’s Blue Water Task Force and Clean Border Water Now programs and the YMCA’s Camp Surf. Located in Imperial Beach, this lab will increase local testing capacity, learning opportunities, and transboundary pollution advocacy. This space will also provide hands-on learning for local high school students and Camp Surf youth — where water is typically too polluted to enter at the beach on-site. Through this program, we can shine a light on pollution issues impacting San Diego County's coastal waters and unite our community to find and implement solutions. YOUR VOICE MATTERS. Speak out now against new offshore drilling before it’s too late! 🚨 The Trump administration is officially pursuing an unprecedented and dangerous new offshore drilling plan off California, the Gulf of Mexico, including the previously protected waters off of Florida, and Alaska, including the pristine High Arctic, where drilling has never been attempted before because of the extreme environmental hazards. Here are three good reasons why this doesn’t make sense: ➡️ We don’t need more leases. The United States is already the world's top oil producer, and the fossil fuel industry is currently sitting on over 1,800 unused offshore drilling leases. ➡️ New drilling won’t lower prices at the pump. Gas prices are set by global markets and the administration’s own announcement quotes Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum saying, “Offshore oil and gas production does not happen overnight. It takes years of planning, investment, and hard work before barrels reach the market.” It will reward fossil fuel executives, though. ➡️ It’s not worth the risk. Oil spills threaten our coastal tourism and recreation economies, which generate over $225 billion annually and support 2.5 million jobs — almost 3x as much as the $77 billion that offshore oil and gas generate, and 10x more jobs.
