About us

The Arc Eastern Connecticut was founded in 1952 by families in northeastern and southeastern Connecticut who sought opportunities for their children who at the time were not welcome in the public school system. Today The Arc serves over 800 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We offer day and residential supports, employment opportunities, in-home/family supports, life skills training, recreation, and person-centered, community based services. In partnership with national, state, and local chapters, we are a powerful advocacy force for full inclusion of people with IDD throughout Eastern Connecticut.

  • Thanks to all of you who helped us celebrate Founder’s Day on Tuesday night. We must have had close to half of The Arc Eastern Connecticut’s team there! Seeing your families, enjoying the awards presentations, sharing food and laughter – the evening was incredibly fun.   Special thanks to our Board of Directors, both our outgoing members and incoming ones. I especially want to thank Linda Rhodes for her years of service on our Board, and her leadership. Shannon Aiello, who has served as a Director – including several terms as Board President – for 26 years, exemplifies the vision of our Founding parents. Thank you so much, Shannon!   Again, thanks for sharing your time and talents with the people and families we serve on a daily basis.   Denise Tift, who led the effort planning everything from the awards to the water balloons, did an amazing job. The pizza truck is sheer genius!   Best wishes to you all for a safe and happy summer.   In Partnership for Full Equality, Kathleen Be a part of our story!
