It has taken me some time to process the enormous satisfaction I felt in organizing the first international conference on open justice. For RIJA, this is undoubtedly the most significant achievement of 2025, reflecting the collective efforts of a large community of practice over the last five years. With the support of OGP, RIJA and the Judiciary of the Dominican Republic brought together the regional and international open justice ecosystem in Santo Domingo to debate ideas, exchange experiences, develop strategies, and plan future projects. What were the achievements? Many. ➡️Over 500 people participated in the opening ceremony, which featured Luis Abinader, the president of the Dominican Republic, and Henry Molina, president of the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic. ➡️Over 40 civil society organizations joined forces with academics, judicial branches, and international organizations, including the The World Bank , OECD - OCDE, Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, PNUD en América Latina y el Caribe, and ECLAC. Tinker Foundation's support was crucial in ensuring the participation of a significant number of civil society organizations, and GIZ enabled us to invite some of the most prominent open justice experts at the regional and international levels. ➡️New alliances and relationships were forged with institutions such as Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, HiiL | Dedicated to people-centred justice, Rule of Law IDEAS Colab, World Justice Project, International Association for Court Administration, Red Académica de Gobierno Abierto Internacional, and COMJIB - Conferencia de Ministros de Justicia de los Países Iberoamericanos. ➡️Outstanding international experts and judges participated, including Margaret Satterthwaite, Dorota Zabludowska, Alejandro Ponce, Andrew Solomon, Fernando Marani and Zainab Malik. ➡️We approved the Santo Domingo Declaration on Open Justice, which was signed by over 100 institutions, NGOs, academics, and experts. This declaration will serve as a roadmap for advancing the open justice agenda at the regional and international levels. Above all, I leave with the consolidation of RIJA both as a team and as a prominent regional actor, having brought together many RIJA members for the first time, and having generated and/or consolidated many personal and institutional relationships. We have much to do, and we will continue working! This is such an exciting, timely, and high-leverage philanthropic opportunity for donors committed to building climate resilience in one of the regions most impacted by climate change. International Community Foundation and its donor partners will provide support to locally-led organizations in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua that are addressing climate impacts and driving community-led economic development. In addition to unlocking matching funds from an existing ICF supporter, donors will have the opportunity to engage with and learn alongside local organizations and each other, including through thoughtfully designed site visits. 💬 Me atrevo a ser un poco vulnerable hoy. Se que es poco común en esta red social tan acostumbrada a mostrar logros, y la autopromoción y el elogio como narrativa principal. Esta es una historia a mitad de camino entre lo personal y lo organizacional. El primer trimestre de este año fue muy difícil de navegar. Un tiempo de mucha turbulencia con el cambio abrupto que sufrió el ecosistema de financiación internacional en Colombia. El cierre de USAID nos llevó a un punto de crisis tan profundo que, por primera vez, tuvimos que hacernos una pregunta impensable: ¿Y si nos toca cerrar CIVIX Colombia? Como cofundador de una organización, nunca es fácil enfrentarse a esa posibilidad. Al final, hablamos del equivalente profesional a tener un hijo o una hija y darse cuenta de que podría ser el momento de decir adiós. Fue un tiempo de ansiedad, estrés… y también de reinvención. Con mucho esfuerzo, resiliencia, autocompasión y, sobre todo, con un equipo que decidió seguirle apostando a este sueño, logramos salir adelante. Capotear la tormenta, aprender y entender que necesitábamos hacer nuevas apuestas para garantizar que nuestra misión siga viva en un país que lo necesita más que nunca. Gracias a personas que creyeron en nosotros (como Caroline Kronley, Gabriela Gutierrez Villa, y Suki Capobianco), y a nuevos proyectos que fuimos ganando, tuvimos el sustento y la base para mantener este sueño. Y gracias a Sandra Acero, Andrea Zea Faura, Alejandro Santamaría Virviescas, y Laura Gómez Cárdenas, pudimos darle forma al nuevo rumbo, con el apoyo de María Camila Moreno Gil y Matthew Duarte, que están dándole impulso. Hoy, gracias a todo ese trabajo y a un universo que nos siguen dando luz, CIVIX Colombia no solo sigue vivo, sino listo para una nueva etapa: COCORO💓, una experiencia para transformar la forma en que los equipos de empresas y organizaciones se conectan, comunican y colaboran. Después de años de trabajo en educación socioemocional y liderazgo con docentes y jóvenes, ahora llevamos ese aprendizaje al mundo de las organizaciones y empresas. “Trust isn’t built by decree. It’s built by small and consistent actions.” - Isa LaPorte, ConnectED Fellows Last week at the Central America Donors Forum #CADF25, a group of leaders (Isa LaPorte, Marta Chicoj, Xeomara Santos) spoke to a standing-room only crowd on “Collaborative Philanthropy and Community Resilience”. The three panelists, joined by moderator Ozmin Jerohan Santos Santos (Global Fund for Children) and the The Summit Charitable Foundation, Inc.’s Kathy Hall, described their organizations’ experience with the #RECARGA co-funding initiative. In many ways, RECARGA emerged from CADF, which has served as a space for sustained discussion about education in Central America, and the initiative has been featured in past Forum agendas. What was different this time? The panel organizers sharing the RECARGA story were frontline educational organizations, not funders. The outcomes they described were tangible changes in *their* everyday work. And their call for funders to invest in relationships over transactions ("relaciones sobre transacciones") through initiatives like RECARGA resonated far more deeply as a result. Some highlights from the panel: 💫 RECARGA’s model of flexible funding plus support for institutional strengthening trusts organizations to identify their greatest needs and opportunities.   💫 Microgrants have facilitated dozens of targeted collaborations between the 15 RECARGA organizations in Guatemala and Honduras, forging a “social fabric” (tejido social) and culture of shared learning at a time when many organizations are working in isolation. 💫 Global Fund for Children plays an essential “backbone” role for RECARGA, accompanying organizations and supporting them to articulate a vision for the future of the initiative.
