🏆 We are excited to share that William Coombs of Public Works is our newest WOW Award recipient, for being October's Employee of the Month! In September, we experienced a facility issue at Town Hall prior to a scheduled board meeting; staff was limited that day. While dealing with a personal matter, William arranged transportation to Town Hall to address the problem and reopen the building in time for the board meeting. Thank you, William, for your efforts in going above and beyond to ensure our facilities are always ready for business, the Town of Wendell is proud to honor and recognize you!

🏆 The Town of Wendell is honored to have received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the seventh year in a row (and overall) by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for our Fiscal Year 2026 Budget -- our current budget. This award reflects the commitment of the Town to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as: ➡️ A policy document ➡️ A financial plan ➡️ An operations guide ➡️ A communications device We would like to extend our thanks to our amazing Finance Department and the annual budget team for their hard work in preparing this year's budget. The current budget can be found online at townofwendellnc.gov/2026.

Our long-awaited Carver Community Center at Pleasant Grove officially broke ground on Sunday! The project involves redesigning and reimagining the historic African American Carver School located at 948 Morphus Bridge Road. The current complex is built on the site of a former Rosenwald School, within the Pleasant Grove community. Upon completion, the Carver Community Center will provide: ➡️ After-school, track-out and summer camp programs ➡️ Job development services to help lift community members from systemic generational poverty ➡️ Space for nonprofits to provide services ➡️ Performing arts space in a retained auditorium area ➡️ Inclusive program space suitable for multigenerational and multi-capable community members ➡️ Universal design ensuring American with Disabilities Act compliance ➡️ Space to continue an on-site food pantry. Thank you to Congresswoman Deborah Ross for securing $2 million for the project in 2023, Wake County for providing $1 million, our incredible staff, Andre Johnson Architect, Cumming Group, Southway Builders, Geosyntec, State Historic Preservation staff, and of course, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Town recently annexed this property to provide equitable services and to unify the community with the rest of Wendell. We are excited to move forward as one. This was a very special day for us and we cannot wait to provide updates as construction progresses. Stay tuned!
