At our 2025 Major Gift Donor Recognition event last week, we celebrated the generosity of our Red Feather and Philanthropist Society members at the Shoreby Club. These donors have contributed over $5.9 million, supporting essential programs like United Way 211, which connects people to housing, food, emergency resources, and more. Special thanks to Board Member Ira Kaplan for being the member sponsor for this event, and to Board Chair Vanessa L. Whiting for helping us recognize this group of philanthropists. 211 navigators Michelle Snowden and Alexander Cohen shared stories from their work helping people navigate complex challenges and connect to resources. To every donor who makes this work possible, thank you. Your support creates real change in our community. Shout-out to Monica Ghose for leading this special event! #UnitedWayCLE #MajorGifts

Meet our next Emerging Leader Cabinet member, Daniel Morber! #EmergingLeadersCLE #UnitedWayCLE
We are thrilled to introduce you to Daniel Morber from The Schauer Group! Daniel joined the Cabinet this spring and has jumped into action- attending meetings, sharing ideas, and engaging his network in our annual Topgolf event. He believes it’s important for young professionals to engage in the community because it can be difficult to break away from the daily ‘grind.’ As he says, “Young professionals often have the most time and energy to give – making us a necessity for bettering our communities. Getting involved early in our careers allows us to form connections and foster community growth sooner.”

Black Philanthropy Month is a time to reflect on the legacy of generosity in Black communities and the responsibility to carry it forward. In a recent article, United Way of Central Indiana Emerging Leader Milan Ball shares how the Sankofa bird symbolizes this journey: flying forward while looking back, protecting the fragile, promising future we all share. United Way values the tradition of Black philanthropy as a powerful force for community strength and change. It has long centered community care through mutual aid, churches, and civic groups. These are not new ideas; they are inherited wisdom we are called to honor and evolve. While August is designated as Black Philanthropy Month, the principles of generosity, community support, and Black leadership are relevant and celebrated year-round. If you or someone you work with receives Summer EBT (SUN Bucks) benefits, now is the time to make the most of them. • Benefits expire four months after they are issued, and unused funds will be lost. • Cards can be used for groceries, including fresh produce, dairy, and other staples. • Households should keep their Summer EBT card—the same card will be used again next year if the family is eligible. United Way 211 tracks programs like Summer EBT to help families stay connected to the support they need, when they need it. Find more information at www.sebt.ohio.gov, or dial 2-1-1 to get connected to local food resources and more. #UnitedWayCLE #SummerEBT #FoodSupport
