The work that Medical Services Professionals (#MSP) do is essential to patient safety, and this week we are celebrating their contributions to the healthcare industry! Follow along as we hear from members of the Verifiable team who contribute to this important field. Introducing… Mel S. Credentialing Operations Manager Q: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you started your career as an MSP? A: I really fell into this, and I feel like everybody does. I had no idea what credentialing was, but I knew someone working in a medical group who thought I’d be a good fit. So, I just went for it. I was in my early 20’s and had no idea what a TIN or tax ID was. It was a humbling experience, calling health plans and asking a lot of questions. It was back when we used fax machines and had to sign everything with an actual pen. I got excited about wanting to do a better job and improve the process. Q: What do you like most about your role? A: I definitely love the team we have. The CVO team is really special, built with dedicated, skilled people. I love coming on every day and working with them. Also, being tied to software is an entirely different experience. I get to inform the product we’re using, which allows me to flex different muscles and have my voice heard in various projects. Q: What do you see as the biggest area for impact that MSPs have? A: The whole point of the profession is patient safety and quality care. People often see us as a roadblock, but we’re actually trying to suss out the bad actors and ensure everyone is licensed and trained properly. It’s about helping the community and ensuring providers are meant to do what they’re doing, which ultimately helps patient safety. Q: What would you like to see change or improve in your industry? A: The biggest problem is centralizing our information and making it accessible. Providers need centralized profiles or repositories where all information is verified regularly. This would eliminate redundant verification across companies, allowing credentialing specialists to focus on higher-value work. We’ve come a long way from hand-filled paper applications to electronic submissions, but there’s still progress to be made. Q: Do you have any thoughts on AI development in the healthcare industry and in credentialing specifically? A: I think the partnership with people in credentialing is what’s going to push AI forward safely. Verifiable is working with internal teams and specialists to inform software decisions. There’s a lot of potential to streamline processes and make things faster and more efficient, as long as it’s done the right way. I’m looking forward to seeing how our AI solutions continue to develop here! #MSPweek

The work that Medical Services Professionals (#MSP) do is essential to patient safety, and this week we are celebrating their contributions to the healthcare industry! Follow along as we hear from members of the Verifiable team who contribute to this important field. Introducing… Courtney Hallowell Licensing Team Lead Q: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you started your career as an MSP? A: This is definitely not where I originally thought I would be. I went to school for psychology, and that’s what my degree is in. An opportunity presented itself for me to do licensing for a different company, and I’ve been in the licensing industry for about eight years now. I worked at Locum Tenens, where we did temporary placement licensing for medical doctors and nurses. I’ve been with Verifiable for almost four and a half years, and it’s my first fully remote role. I really enjoy it, especially with the growth of telehealth over the past four years. Q: What do you like most about your role? A: I’m a very Type A person, so organization speaks to me. I enjoy keeping things organized and working directly with providers. Every provider is different, which keeps it interesting and engaging. The overall impact of what we’re doing is rewarding, as we’re trying to provide healthcare access to as many people as possible. Q: What do you see as the biggest area for impact that MSPs have? A: The speed at which we get everything done is crucial. The licensing process can be daunting, with so much paperwork and potential delays. In some states, it can take up to a year to obtain a license. Having someone like us as a liaison helps speed up the process, allowing providers to see patients sooner. Q: What would you like to see change or improve in your industry? A: Working with state medical boards can be challenging due to funding constraints and staffing shortages, leading to processing delays. Some boards still require paper applications, which is crazy in today’s remote world. More technology and standardized digital processes would be great. The expansion of licensure compacts, like those for medical doctors and nurses, could also change the industry by allowing providers to be licensed in one state but practice in others. Q: Do you have any thoughts on AI development in the healthcare industry and in credentialing specifically? A: Licensing is still very manual, with person-to-person interactions with state boards and doctors. Credentialing has more online verifications and instant submissions. AI’s potential in licensing is uncertain but promising, depending on state board adoption. I’m curious to see how AI could improve the process, as licensing remains heavily manual. #MSPweek

The work that Medical Services Professionals (#MSP) do is essential to patient safety, and this week we are celebrating their contributions to the healthcare industry! Follow along as we hear from members of the Verifiable team who contribute to this important field. Introducing… Courtney Ivess Director, Credentialing Client Services Q: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you started your career as an MSP? A: I actually started my career accidentally. It was my first job out of college as a temp at Privia Health doing billing. We had a lot of credentialing issues due to outsourcing, which led to many claims being written off. As I investigated these claims issues, I became fascinated by credentialing as a process and its role at the start of the revenue cycle. I eventually moved into the credentialing team and managed it for about five years, focusing on patient safety and improving the onboarding process. Q: What do you like most about your role? A: I really enjoy solving new problems, especially those that fall outside of standard procedures. I like investigating unique cases and steering the industry towards necessary changes. Being part of a larger CVO allows me to share process efficiencies with other clients. I also love the research aspect, particularly when working with new clients in different states and ensuring compliance with their regulations. Q: What do you see as the biggest area for impact that MSPs have? A: The biggest area for impact is definitely around patient safety and ensuring that patients see quality healthcare providers. My goal is to prevent situations like the Christopher Duntsch case in Texas, where a doctor deliberately harmed patients. I want to ensure accountability in provider operations to maintain patient safety. Q: What would you like to see change or improve in your industry? A: I would like to see more efficiency in the industry. There are many smart people spending too much time on rote, manual tasks. By increasing efficiency, we can focus our brainpower on solving bigger problems and improving patient safety processes through better credentialing. Q: Do you have any thoughts on AI development in the healthcare industry and in credentialing specifically? A: I see a lot of potential for AI in reducing manual fatigue and human error in credentialing. When you do the same tasks repeatedly, it’s easy to miss issues. AI can help keep our minds fresh, allowing us to catch problems more effectively. This will make patients safer and free up time for more complex work, ultimately helping people advance their careers. #MSPweek

The work that Medical Services Professionals (#MSP) do is essential to patient safety, and this week we are celebrating their contributions to the healthcare industry! Follow along as we hear from members of the Verifiable team who contribute to this important field. Introducing… Elizabeth Whiting Credentialing Specialist III Q: Tell us a little bit about your background and how you started your career as an MSP? A: My background actually started in an entry-level call team position with Humana Dental. A friend recommended the role because of the work-from-home benefits, and I thought the idea of working in my pajamas was amazing. I quickly picked up on credentialing dental providers and moved up to coordinating their committee. I was responsible for running sanctions and exclusions monitoring, creating committee agendas, presenting them, and sending out approval and denial letters. It was a crazy ride that all happened in about two years. Q: What do you like most about your role? A: I love that it’s always changing. You’re constantly adapting to new policies and procedures, which keeps it interesting. No two providers or clients are ever the same, so it helps you stay focused. You can’t train someone to do my job and be able to answer everything they’ll come across. Even after five years, I still learn something new every day. Q: What do you see as the biggest area for impact that MSPs have? A: From a credentialing standpoint, it’s about safety. We conduct background checks on all providers to ensure they are who they say they are and are good at their job. This gives confidence back to the healthcare system by ensuring the safety of health plan members and patients. Q: What would you like to see change or improve in your industry? A: I’d like to see healthcare organizations and providers keep up with the times and adapt. Many are stuck in outdated paper-based processes, which slow down turnaround times. For example, some dental offices still use filing systems and require faxed applications. If everyone could advance at the same time, it would improve efficiency. Q: Do you have any thoughts on AI development in the healthcare industry and in credentialing specifically? A: I believe that if used correctly, it can drastically improve our processes. I’m excited to play a part in building Verifiable’s AI solutions. I have a little hesitation about AI; however, I think that's due to not fully understanding its capabilities and how to leverage it correctly yet. No matter what, I am along for the ride and thrilled to see where it takes us. #MSPweek
