WHYY is your local, Member-supported NPR and PBS station, delivering information, entertainment and education.
About us
WHYY makes our region a better place, connecting each of us to the world's richest ideas and all of us to each other through Member-supported public media. Through WHYY-FM 90.9, WHYY-TV 12 and WHYY.org, we reach 1.3 million people on average each week in the Greater Philadelphia area. We are your local PBS and NPR member station, bringing you long-time favorite programs, such as Masterpiece and All Things Considered. But our national programs are only the tip of the iceberg. WHYY Studios produces more than a dozen local programs, such as Fresh Air with Terry Gross, You Oughta Know and The Connection with Marty Moss-Coane. We offer a robust regional news service supported by an award-winning newsroom, home to Billy Penn, PlanPhilly and the WHYY Climate Desk. We are deeply committed to the needs of young people. Many people’s first experience with WHYY is watching our award-winning PBS Kids television programs as a child. We also teach thousands of kids to make videos in 40+ local schools and at our studio. We bring together people in the region for interesting and fun events in person and online. From critical community conversations to advanced screenings with big personalities, keep an eye on WHYY.org/events for things to do all year round. Of course, all of this is only possible through Member support.

Fresh Air’s been digital since 2007...but the tape era still haunts our dreams. Thanks to FA staff Ann Marie Baldonado, Monique Nazareth, Danny Miller, Anna Bauman, Terry Gross, Audrey Bentham, Roberta Shorrock, and Susan Nyakundi for sharing their nightmares – after 50 years on the air, they've acquired a few!

A wonderful evening and a powerful film!
We’re still feeling so inspired after Thursday night’s special screening of "American Delivery" in Pennsylvania. It was an incredible honor to meet Pennsylvania's First Lady, Lori Shapiro, and hear why maternal health matters so much to her and to women and families across the state. Our host, Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder, shared her own moving story and even invited her son Max onstage for the cutest encore! We could not have dreamed of a better moderator for the panel discussion than journalist Cherri Gregg from WHYY, and Lisa Frank and I were honored to share the stage with panelists Elizabeth Howell MD, MPP, Samia Bristow, Morgan Cephas, and Jessica Schwarz, all of whom shared real solutions to the maternal health crisis, and reminded us why this work matters so much. We would like to thank all who joined us at the screening and continue to stand with us in the fight for better care for every mom and family. We’re in this together. What’s one change you’d like to see to improve maternal health in your community? Let’s keep the conversation going! #AmericanDelivery #midwifery #MaternalHealth #NursesLead #documentary Penn Medicine Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System Montgomery County, PA
