🎤 New Behind the Wings podcast episode - Why the F-22 Transformed Stealth. Retired Fighter Pilot Randy "Laz" Gordon, Colonel (retired USAF), PhD explains how the F-22 changed the air battlefield and why it was built to win the first fight. We’ll also explore some of the Raptor's surprising similarities to civilian Cessna aircraft, and why, in some ways, the Skyhawk is a harder airplane to manage. From flying a zeppelin to iconic planes like the F-15, "Laz" has done it all. This one is going to be cool! Episode 60 marks the end of Season 6. We will be taking a short break, but are excited to bring you more stories in Season 7, coming this fall. Find Episode 60 at the link in our comments or wherever you listen to podcasts! Hosted by Rick Crandall. Produced by Brian Funke and Cray Novick. Edited by Brian Funke. #wingsmuseum #wingsovertherockies #aviation #behindthewings #podcast #raptor #f22 #f22raptor #cessna

Meet Rachel Pearl Herman, our new Chief Experience Officer! With more than a decade of experience in aerospace museums and science centers, Herman will be focused on delivering dynamic, mission-aligned experiences that inspire curiosity and connection across both the Air & Space Museum in Lowry and the Exploration of Flight campus at Centennial Airport. Most recently, she served as the Strategic Initiative Project Manager at Space Center Houston, where she led high priority, cross-departmental efforts to enhance the guest experience and advance institutional priorities. Prior to that, she was Director of Collections at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, Texas. Rachel is committed to ensuring programs serve the broad and diverse needs of the community. Her passion has led her to form sustainability teams and spearhead engagement strategies through Cambio, a collaboration between museums and informal learning spaces across the country working to better serve local Latino/a/x communities. “Wings Over the Rockies represents the best of what museums can be—dynamic spaces for learning, inspiration, and community connection,” said Herman. “I’m honored to join this incredible team and look forward to building partnerships that support our mission and expand access to aerospace programs, exhibits and education across Colorado.” Rachel holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Archaeology from the The University of Texas at Austin. In her free time, Rachel enjoys adventuring with her three kids to experience it all—from the food and museums to the mountains and the vibrant community. Please join us in welcoming Rachel to the team!

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum reposted this
Today is National Aviation Day, and it feels like the perfect moment to wrap up my time at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum this summer. My position here has been such a rewarding experience! I’ve loved sharing aviation and space with campers while also strengthening my own skills in communication, leadership, and problem-solving. Working with students is a constant reminder of how fun and impactful learning can be when it’s hands-on and filled with curiosity. A special thank you to Michelle McMahon & Nedra Hall for believing in me and supporting me over the past four years. I’ve been lucky to grow through different roles at Wings, each one giving me new challenges and responsibilities. I’m eternally grateful for the mentorship, encouragement, and trust you’ve given me along the way. It’s been an unforgettable summer, and I’ll carry these experiences (and memories!) with me moving forward. 🤍🛫
