Strengthening Community Through Collective Action Throughout November, the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg mobilized members, staff, and volunteers at our Thomas E. Hannah and Willis Road branches to collect and deliver two full carloads of food to The Bridge at Green Street. These donations directly supported local families — a reflection of how the Y lives out its mission beyond our walls. We’re grateful to Kimmy LaMee, Director of Compassion Ministries, for their partnership and kind words of appreciation. Efforts like this remind us that the strength of a community is measured not just by what we do, but by what we do together. At the Y, we remain committed to showing up for Spartanburg — today and every day.

Last Friday, Middle Tyger YMCA hosted our annual Thanksgiving Potluck—an intentional space for gratitude, shared traditions, and community connection. It’s more than a meal. It’s how we live our mission—bringing people together and making everyone feel they belong. A short video captures the heart of the day. #CommunityLeadership #YMCA #StrongerTogether #MiddleTygerYMCA

We’re grateful to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for recognizing YSSC and their 2025 YMCA National Long Course Championship won this August. This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our athletes, the guidance of our coaches, and the constant support of our parents — the team behind the team. It was an honor for our program to be highlighted during the game and celebrated by the crowd. Thank you to the Swamp Rabbits for shining a light on our Sea Cukes and the community that stands behind them.

When a hurricane left the trail behind our Y damaged, a team from AFL showed up with gloves, grit, and heart to bring it back to life. As part of AFL’s UNITE program— to live out the value of being #CommunityCentered—a group of associates took time out of their day to clear debris and restore the trail behind the Middle Tyger YMCA. Thanks to their hard work, our members and neighbors can once again enjoy the outdoors safely. Later, Angie Myers, Director of Benefits, Wellness & Community Engagement, and Marvin Blanton, Product Manager, joined several AFL associates at our Middle Tyger YMCA Board Meeting to share more about AFL’s commitment to community service. Marvin shared how volunteerism is part of AFL’s DNA—highlighting that during this year, hundreds of associates served across dozens of projects with community partners, including two right here at Middle Tyger. His message reminded us that AFL isn’t just building world-class technology; they’re also building stronger communities. We are deeply grateful for AFL’s partnership and for every associate who gave their time and energy to help restore our trail. Together, we’re rebuilding more than paths—we’re rebuilding hope. We’re proud to partner with organizations that put community first. How is your team giving back this fall? #AFL #MiddleTygerYMCA #UNITE #CommunityCentered #Volunteerism #YMCAValues #ForABetterUs

We’re honored to share that our YMCA was selected as a 2025 grant recipient by Dabo’s All In Team Foundation. The announcement was made during the Foundation’s Grant Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, November 5, where Deidre Taber, our Executive Branch Director at Middle Tyger YMCA, had the opportunity to meet both Coach Dabo Swinney and Kathy Swinney—whose commitment to community was clear and deeply appreciated. This generous grant will help us expand access to health and wellness programs, allowing more individuals and families in our community to learn, grow, and thrive. We’re proud to be among a group of organizations working together to make a lasting impact across South Carolina. Thank you to the Dabo's All In Team Foundation for supporting the Y’s mission and investing in local change. #YMCA #DabosAllInTeamFoundation #DaboSwinney #KathySwinney #GrantRecipient #CommunityImpact #ForABetterUs
