  • JIT vs EOQ : cost effectiveness in production systems

This study compares two strategies of inventory control- ‘traditional single delivery method’ (also
known as EOQ model) and ‘Just-In-Time’ (Single Setup Multiple Delivery) model. For
this a MATLAB code has been developed and implicated. This code first compares inventory
costs from both single and multiple delivery methods; then applies whatsoever method is
    more economic.

Though JIT is considered to be more economic, it has been shown with

    both of them.

  • Justification of ash bricks as viable alternative of conventional bricks using ANP

This paper develops a comprehensive model, which incorporates diversified issues involved in selection of the right brick. This paper develops a comprehensive model, which incorporates diversified issues involved in selection of the right brick. It considers a balanced view from the perspective of the 4 actors-Brick Manufacturer, State/Central Government, Property Developers and NGO/Environmentalists. ANP is a methodology introduced by Saaty for multiple criteria problems where it identifies and represents the interactions between a number of critical factors that are involved in selection of the optimal percentage of fly ash in the brick which is then compared with conventional brick on certain interdependent factors -Cost, Quality, Process Effectiveness, Brick properties and Environmental factors. Since there is feedback and interdependence among these factors, ANP proves to be an effective framework for assessing readiness to utilize fly ash for making bricks. The results obtained using ANP justify the utilization of fly ash bricks over conventional bricks.

Thin shells are generally very sensitive to buckling. It is the classical subject and extensive experimental and theoretical studies have been reported, the gap between the theoretical prediction and experimental data is still high. Hence it is important to validate the theoretical prediction by experiments for the case-by-case application. In this content the main vessel of a typical Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR), which is critical with respect to buckling under, shear load is taken for the present study. The shear load is possible during a seismic event. Since the main vessel contains all the radio active materials viz. fuel, coolant sodium etc, it the most critical component in the reactor. Towards ensuring its structural integrity, many studies are being carried out. One such important study is assessing its structural stability (buckling) under shear load and axial load which is focused in this report. For the present study a thin cylindrical of aluminium alloy which has D/t ratio similar to that of PFBR main vessel is chosen.
