GovCIO Panel Discussion Happy to call out Neil Evans, MD, the acting program executive director of the Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office, who shared his insights at last week’s GovCIO Media & Research's Health IT Summit in Rockville, Maryland. He explained that the focus of the modernization project remains improved usability and operational effectiveness of the system. He added that achieving those goals will also set the stage for other solutions moving forward, including next-generation technologies. Dr. Evans noted that one of the benefits of delivering a commercial EHR is that we can, in the future, more easily deliver an integrated technological experience, because we will be on the same baseline. He also echoed what I have heard during my visits to sites: - We must be rigorous and careful in how we deploy the Federal EHR - Our goal is to ensure we do not disrupt operations in the nation's largest health care system. Dr. Evans also made it clear that while implementing the Federal EHR is a significant technology project, it’s more about our people. It's a different way of thinking. It's a different way of working. And we need to support every single one of them through this change. The result will be an improved experience for #Veterans, as the VA facilities they visit will have access to their complete health record and care history in one system.
