For the first time ever, our outpatient pharmacies dispensed 1 million medications in a single year! This achievement is about more than volume: it’s about our pharmacy team’s commitment to meeting the needs of our patients by going above and beyond. Some of the key efforts leading to our service expansion include: 💊 In communities lacking local pharmacy services, our organization has aimed to fill the void. One of the most recent retail pharmacy locations we’ve opened is at Stoney Creek in Nellysford. 💊 The pharmacy team has extended its reach into ambulatory clinics in an effort to support more patients. Adding dedicated pharmacy technicians in more areas, including our UVA Cancer Center and UVA Health Children’s clinics, allows us to provide support to a greater number of patients. 💊 The Meds 2 Beds Program, which delivers prescriptions directly to patients before they’re discharged from the hospital, is now servicing all acute care units. 💊 With the addition of new medications, our UVA Continuum Home Infusion Pharmacy is serving more patients who require complex infusion therapy to manage conditions like cancer, rheumatologic, and neurologic conditions. 💊 The UVA Specialty and Home Delivery Pharmacy, which delivers medications to patients via mail or courier, now serves patients in 14 states, with South Carolina, Colorado, and Florida added in the last year.

Governor Newsom has signed AB 1503 (Pharmacy) - the sunset review bill for the California board of pharmacy that, among many other things, introduces the "standard of care" for the provision of pharmacist clinical services, reclassifies “advanced practice pharmacists” licensees to “advanced pharmacist practitioners", increases the pharmacist-to-techinian ratio, and mandates medication reconciliation by pharmacists for hospital admissions and discharge! These new laws will go into effect on January 1, 2026. APhA, AMCP and ASHP issued a joint press release after HHS and CDC announced the appointment of Hillary F. Blackburn, PharmD, MBA, as the first pharmacist voting member of ACIP. For over a decade, APhA has advocated for pharmacist representation on ACIP.
