The single biggest revenue blocker I see in healthcare when GTM targets providers: Integration requirements that weren't scoped pre-sale. What happens: 1. Solution sells based on outcomes (excellent!) 2. During implementation, IT requirements emerge (hmm) 3. Project stalls awaiting integration resources (because oh boy, provider enterprise architecture is fun and IT resourcing is TIGHT and it turns out you're competing against rev cycle reporting) 4. Renewal comes due before value is demonstrated (that's not a fun meeting with the board of directors) Integration isn't a technical problem. With NAACOS coming up next week, I wanted to highlight an example of how improving quality outcomes can lead to meaningful savings. Specifically, the Controlling High Blood Pressure measure shows a positive correlation with ACO savings rates. The chart below illustrates 2023 MSSP results for ACOs that submitted quality data via the CMS Web Interface, highlighting Track B ACOs in pink and Enhanced Track ACOs in black. Enhanced Track ACOs performed approximately 4% higher on the Controlling High BP quality measure. This isn’t surprising to me, given their higher risk profile and longer runway to optimize workflows. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞: Percentage of patients 18-85 years of age who had a diagnosis of hypertension overlapping the measurement period and whose most recent blood pressure was adequately controlled (<140/90 mmHg) during the measurement period. 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Interestingly, 92% of ACOs submitted quality data via the Web Interface in 2023. With 2024 being the final year this option is available, I expect similarly high usage. If your ACO is still developing a quality reporting strategy for 2025 and beyond, Koan—as a Qualified Registry—can help guide you through alternative options. In contrast to the BP control measure, when comparing HbA1c Poor Control to ACO savings rates, I saw no correlation—surprising, given both are key quality measures.
