California Community Colleges, in partnership with the Success Center at the Foundation for California Community Colleges and with generous support from Ascendium Education Group, is launching an innovative project to leverage shortened academic courses (8 weeks or less) to boost accessibility and flexibility for students statewide. These courses open the door to quality programs with more manageable workloads, benefiting working learners and student parents alike. “Shortened courses can play a pivotal role in helping our students succeed by offering them the flexibility and resources they need to balance education with other commitments,” said Dr. Rowena Tomaneng, Deputy Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. Sac State is joining forces with the Sacramento K-16 Collaborative, Los Rios Community College District and Elk Grove Unified School District in an initiative to identify student success barriers. With the coronavirus threat looming five years ago, PBS SoCal partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District to launch the At Home Learning program on March 16, 2020, with curriculum-tied educational programming airing on three public TV channels (pre-K-grade 3 on PBS SoCal, grades 4-8 on KCLS and grades 9-12 on KCET) to serve 700,000 LAUSD students.
