Focusing solely on performance hurts performance. It sounds counterintuitive, but WARC's latest "Multiplier Effect" report validates what we’ve been seeing across billions of $ in marketing spend and shouting about for years: the brands that win are the ones doing it at the intersection of brand and performance marketing. This isn't just another industry report - it's a comprehensive validation of why traditional marketing measurement is holding brands back. The findings are killer: Traditional attribution models are systematically undervaluing brand impact - overvaluing bottom-of-funnel activity by up to 190%. This creates a dangerous cycle where marketers over-invest in those activities and fall into a “doom loop”. And it's the perfect description for what we're seeing across the industry: 1. Marketers focus on chasing the quick wins 2. Easy-to-measure bottom-of-funnel activity create a false sense of success 3. Then they try the same thing in a new channel and expect different results - just because your attribution says it’s working To escape this, the WARC report states that brands need to move away from thinking of brands as something they have to/should/might do completely separately from performance. They need instead to adopt a brand x performance mindset. This multiplier effect fundamentally changes how we should think about marketing measurement. When brand equity amplifies performance marketing efficiency, treating them as separate entities - or worse, competing priorities - severely limits potential returns. Brands that successfully balance brand and performance aren't just seeing incremental improvements - they're achieving up to 90% higher revenue returns compared to performance-only approaches. This completely aligns with Fospha's own research: brands with bad measurement can’t see the impact of brand activity on downstream performance, are caught in the doom loop and are spending up to 3-4X more to acquire customers.
