“It was the dawn of the web and none of us knew what we were doing - except Klaus. This is the guy you want on your team when the technology is so new that there is no one you can call to figure it out, and it HAS TO WORK. I can't count the number of times we came up with a "crazy" idea and Klaus had it working the next day. First collocation in Silicon Valley. Check. First company to use Oak (what became Java). Check. First parametric search engine on the web. Check. Demo for 7,000 people and we have to set up in a parking lot at Sun with all new equipment and connections. Check. If it has to work, this is the guy you want leading the team. ”

Many proponents of the java language in the wireless world argue that the language is too heavy for the CPU power of small devices, but Schulz states that this assumption is false and that helloNetworks can efficiently compete using the reduced versions of the language such as Pjava and J2ME."

Mercedes-Benz discontinued to build their Supercar, the SLR with McLaren in 2009, and vacated the McLaren campus in Woking in Surrey UK, taking all of the MBZ back-end IT and design, develop, support and manufacturing systems with them. McLaren found me through their new CIO and asked me to hire, train and mentor a new group of architects and developers to deliver on business requirements, functional analysis, software architecture, application design, code development, and systems operations. As GM and architect of this new IT organization, my responsibility was to lead a cross functional and international team to upgrade and roll existing IT skills over to newer, leading edge technologies in an effort rebuild all of the automotive manufacturing systems in a brown field approach based on modern SOA methodologies and modern tooling. We operated across all five business units for 2 years to rebuild most of the required systems from scratch, in a phased and agile approach. I was responsible for the program management, analysis, design, architecture, project priorities, and implementation of entire line of manufacturing and distribution systems, based on a SOA approach for McLaren’s new Car Company, McLarenautomotive.com. To avoid risk, Strategies were based on quality standards and principles to build an entire new platform for a new Car Company. All internal Systems also needed to be integrated and aligned with external systems and partners. From complex Siemens to Bosch systems, over to Mercedes systems, to 200 partner and vendors, all external systems needed to be interfaced and integrated into McLaren's new IT Services Platform to produce their new line of Supercars using all of available methodologies, and disciplines, JIT, Lean, KanBan, Six Sig, ISO, etc.
