Under Governor Mike DeWine’s leadership and through his ReadOhio initiative, we’re championing statewide efforts to raise literacy achievement. Governor DeWine and Director Stephen Dackin today announced the award of $45.9 million in Comprehensive Literacy State Development grants to 33 schools and districts across the state. The awards come from a $60 million grant given to Ohio by the U.S. Department of Education. These grants will expand access to evidence-based literacy instruction for students in grades K-12 and professional learning for educators, with a focus on enhancing literacy instruction for underserved students across the state. Larry Hanson and I, former public servants and forever public service champions, were recently featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution discussing the essential role of public service in fortifying our communities. The article sheds light on #Georgia #cities serving as economic engines, sustaining 70% of all jobs, accommodating 45% of the population, and driving 91% of the state's GDP. As nearly 10,000 municipal employees are set to retire by 2029, the significance of public service becomes increasingly apparent. To tackle these impending workforce challenges, Georgia Municipal Association is actively engaging in initiatives such as Jobs with Purpose. Simultaneously, Partnership for Inclusive Innovation offers paid, project-based opportunities for internships and fellowships across diverse sectors. These endeavors play a pivotal role not only in filling employment gaps but also in fostering the ongoing prosperity of our communities. They underscore a commitment to supporting our public servants, particularly those transitioning careers, to ensure our communities boast a skilled and resilient workforce. The purpose of the program is to support downtown revitalization and economic development initiatives that are intended to help local governments grow and leverage downtown districts as assets for economic growth, economic development, and prosperity. This program will support projects that: - Provide public improvements that help retain businesses and attract customers to business districts. - Support publicly owned downtown economic development initiatives that leverage main streets and downtown districts as economic engines. - Facilitate publicly owned building improvements that are used for community-wide uses or mixed-use development in or on properties that are publicly owned and controlled.
