The United States has worse maternal health outcomes than other high-income countries, with large, persistent disparities across settings and demographic characteristics. A new AIR Health Research and Policy Center study examines variation in state Medicaid coverage of evidence-based perinatal services. Despite growing recognition of the importance of postpartum care, the study found wide variation in coverage of services like home visits, maternal depression screenings during well-child visits, and more.
