On behalf the SJSU Department of Communication Studies, I would like to invite you to participate in our graduation ceremony as recipient of our 2016 Outstanding COMM Alumni Award.

Dr. Marquita Byrd nominated you for this award, which, in part, is dedicated to graduates who “demonstrate exceptional achievement in their chosen field or area of communication. Through their careers or community involvement, nominees will demonstrate an impact on the creation, maintenance and advancement of a culturally diverse democratic society. Awardees’ accomplishments will exemplify social responsibility, ethical awareness, and community engagement.” No doubt, your record of achievement more than merits this recognition!

The ceremony takes place on Wednesday, May 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the SJSU Event Center. While your schedule may not allow for you to stay the entire time, please note that we hope you’ll be willing to present a five minute keynote address about the role that your Communication Studies degree played in your life. Of course, if you’d like to offer any advice to our 2016 graduates, I’m sure they would be especially grateful. These remarks would be offered early in the ceremony (around 3:20 p.m.).

Please let me know if you can join us, Mr. Balinton. I’ll then follow up with information about parking (which, of course, the department will provide). As ever, there will be some refreshments after the event: a lovely opportunity to visit with old friends, and new ones too!
