In a challenging economy, cross-functional alignment is non-negotiable. The larger a company grows, the more challenging it becomes to align cross-functional teams. But, when I was asked how we’re bringing sales, customer success, and product development together at NMI, especially amid economic uncertainty, my answer was simple: 💡Strategic imperatives. These aren’t just goals — they’re the compass points guiding us to our North Star. We developed our strategic imperatives with the help of Lex Sisney, the founder of Organizational Physics. His methodology helped us design a holistic structure built for clarity, cohesion, and execution. We revisit these imperatives every three years or so, and each one ties directly to a business outcome, like: •Annual and long-term goals •Department-level OKRs •Monthly budgets and planning cycles Everyone at NMI knows what our strategic imperatives are and what role they play in bringing them to life. We also hold a weekly leadership meeting to assess progress and realign as needed. Clear goals, company-wide communication, and regular syncs ensure we’re not just talking about our strategy but actually moving the needle forward. Having an intentional, strategic foundation makes us more resilient. It keeps our teams marching in the same direction, so we can provide the best partner experience in the industry. Today at Etail West in Palm Springs, we are going to talk about a number of ongoing challenges Marketing Technologists face and how changes in technology solutions and operational experience are helping solve for them. The reality though...is that it is a moving target. I've been in Martech for 18 years, technology for over 30, and have never seen a pace of change and information deluge like the one we are struggling to keep up with now.   As we look at the growing imperative for 1st party data in a cookie-less world, and managing it in a way that helps you address the increasing number of compliance and security mandates, it's obvious liability is at an all-time high as is consumer fear and caution.   The good news is that consumers have shown a willingness to participate, engage and share their data when companies tout their data ethicality and when the value exchange equation is balanced to benefit them and not a one-way relationship. We'll get to that more later in a subsequent post but for today, let's focus on one of the lingering challenges that CDP's were supposed to solve for, that is only now, starting to materialize in Martech.   For many of the enterprises we work with, particularly those with a number of channels that may span online and off, identity resolution continues to be a challenge. For almost a decade now, CDP's have been touting both deterministic and probabilistic identity resolution capabilities meant to solve for every instance of a customer across your business.   Reality has fallen well short of expectations. The positive (what we want to focus on here) is that AI has rapidly advanced the probabilistic capabilities and we are now seeing the fruits of our labor. Duplicate customer entries, incomplete profiles, orphaned transactions and records are getting addressed (across the funnel) with a hard-dollar ROI to prove it. The best part is that it is starting to happen in a performant way where we can measure the output in weeks instead of months and years.   Excited to talk more. Excited to hear your POV.
