With OEP having started, here are my 6 customer acquisition takeaways from the latest annual reports of some of the big Medicare eBrokers. They all emphasize their lead acquisition strategy and smart routing as their competitive advantages. 1. Always measure your agents' conversion rates and route incoming leads to the best available agent first. 2. Prioritize routing and smart queuing based on lead scoring. Analyze your lead-to-conversion data and identify the characteristics of leads and sources that work best for you. Prioritize these leads. Don’t be afraid to dig deep into the data here. Location, age, and the prospect's needs can be important variables here. 3. Adjust lead bid amounts in real time based on agent availability and call wait times. Essentially, if agents are available and not calling for too long, the bids are raised, so the call flow volume goes up. 4. Check agent availability first before buying calls (you can use an API for this). Far too often, calls are generated or bought when no agent is available to take them. It is important to take into account whether the available agents are licensed in the state of the lead. 5. Use dynamic lead bids based on the lead’s profile, based on historical performance data. At PX, we do this by adjusting bids based on the performance of specific lead (sub)sources. 6. Detect existing members/policyholders on the inbound calls and transfers you’re receiving and route these to your retention/customer service teams instead of the sales team. This improved retention drastically for one of the biggest eBrokers. If you want to run a more efficient OEP, start implementing the above.

Predawn biz flight to ATL 🌅 Dunks in hand, of course! What better time to reflect on all the joys of ICP targeting. Buying committees are growing larger, making it increasingly tricky to build campaigns that effectively reach all relevant stakeholders. Take for instance heads of marketing, many of the Martech purchases I’ve made actually originated from someone else: my team members, sales leaders/reps, BDRs, or even founders who were targeted and recommended the solution. If those vendors had focused solely on VPs of Marketing or CMOs, that alone might not have swayed me (the budget holder and "decision maker") to engage, and the purchase might not have happened. Of course, this dynamic is playing out in many other markets too. For example, take DevSecOps, as these adjacent teams integrate more closely, their recommendations and tool selections are becoming much more intertwined. Focusing too narrowly on one persona risks missing key influencers who drive decisions behind the scenes. But going too broad can arguably lead to wasted resources engaging contacts who don’t directly convert...not to mention, "word-of-mouth" doesn’t show up well in those all too important attribution reports 🙃 How are you managing ICP in your marketing strategy?
