If you need CMMC and you have a current MSP relationship - have you checked to make sure THEY'RE ready for CMMC requirements? In Episode 1 of Mostly Compliant, Summit 7s Daniel Akridge warns of the issues you could face if you don't partner with an MSP that is CMMC focused: 🗨️ "I have actually had a lot of companies come back to me and say, Daniel, we went with an MSP a year ago or two years ago. They said they were going to get us CMMC ready. We were stoked about it. We signed the contract. We realized later on that our contract didn't call out CMMC specifically, that it was a handshake deal, and that they're actually abandoning us when we told them that we were ready to schedule our assessment. Because they didn't have a customer responsibility matrix. They didn't have the compliant tools they needed to manage the environment. 🍸 Cocktail hour is heating up at the #ITExpo sponsored by The Managed Service Providers Association of America®. We had a great session today on how to train entry level technicians and upskill them in your #MSP. One of the presenters said that on average it takes $50k to replace a Tier 2 tech and that is how you should think about upskilling. you are de-risking that liability if one of your Tier 2 techs leave and you don't have someone lined up in your company to fill the role. The latest Verizon DBIR report shows the continued critical role of cybersecurity vendors and #msps in the field. We have to convince #smbs out there that security is not a cost center but a must-have business enabler. No business is safe from breaches in the current risk economy. Key DBIR 2025 Insights Relevant to MSPs: ‼️ Ransomware Dominates SMB Breaches Ransomware appeared in 44% of all breaches, with an even more alarming 88% of SMB breaches involving ransomware. ‼️ Third-Party Breaches Now 30% of Incidents Breaches involving third-party vendors have doubled to 30%. ‼️ Exploitation of Vulnerabilities Jumps 34% There was a 34% increase in breaches starting with vulnerability exploitation, now accounting for 20% of incidents. Many of these are zero-day attacks aimed at perimeter systems. MSPs need to prioritize proactive patching, vulnerability management, and protective network architecture. ‼️ Edge Device Exploits Surge by 800% Edge infrastructure, including VPNs and remote access gateways, is under siege—exploits here have increased by 800%. This is a direct call for adopting cloud-native, identity-driven access controls like SASE to remove reliance on perimeter security. ‼️ Human Error and Social Engineering in 60% of Breaches Over half of all breaches involved human mistakes or manipulation, such as phishing and credential theft.
