Interesting news from the US freight tech industry this week with Truckstop.com's acquisition of Denim. This is the latest in a round of bolt on M&A deals as the legacy load boards rush to build out their end-end offering in the face of inevitable and escalating competition from other platforms, especially those that offer embedded payment and invoice finance solutions. As with all acquisitions success will largely reside on how well - and how fast - these can be integrated into existing workflows. It will also be fascinating to see whether they can bring order execution into their ecosystem at a meaningful scale - to date these have mostly taken place off-platform. As someone who's had a front row seat in this space for twenty-five years with our own TEG Logistics Technology and Trustd platforms, it's exciting to see this happening!

Alright Linked fam…let’s demystify how AI fits in our logistics space. The negativity feels a bit premature so I felt inclined to chime in. Let me start by saying, buyer beware - be skeptical of vendors but not of AI / Agentic AI. (I empathize w/ buyers, it’s a crowded and noisy space rt now.) I was in Nashville this week and listened to a few of the most successful and tech forward 3PL leaders speak on this topic, summary below…TLDR: this will take time, it’s hard to implement, requires full commitment, a holistic approach, choose your partner wisely. 1. “AI is an amplifier, not a replacement.” It scales human capability but requires rethinking how work is structured and measured. 2. “Education and literacy are critical.” The human learning curve is often steeper than the machine’s. Some employees will resist. What will your team do with the extra time created by AI efficiencies?! 3. “ROI takes time and patience.” AI-Transformation demands leadership conviction, operator buy in, and complimentary process change. No such thing as out of the box. 4. “AI’s impact will start appearing in financial statements.” The groundwork laid today from data clean-up, refined SOPs, process redesign, and model training - will begin yielding measurable ROI in cost reduction and productivity (within 12 mos) 5. “Data is destiny.” The quality and integration accessibility of data determine AI’s effectiveness. As do clean workflow SOPs, which take many iterations to guide Agent effectiveness. 6. “Customer expectations are evolving rapidly, company-wide.” Multi-channel Agents are becoming baseline expectations, and order to cash impact is the ROI holy grail vs. a single point-solution workflow. 7. “Internal engineering teams are realizing massive ROI from AI” - using tools like Cursor to automate code generation and reviews, slash development time, and accelerate product velocity. 8. “The next 3–5 years will define the industry’s winners.” Companies that build trust in data, robust integration layer, invest in staff literacy, and operationalize AI holistically will lead their industries.
