[NEWS] Gregg Young Auto had just two stores when Alex Morton, CPA joined as CFO 10 years ago: Today, the group has 12 rooftops across three states (driven by seven acquisitions in under two years). Morton now says most of his time has been spent on the buy-sell front. And while deals look simple on paper, his filter is tough: for every store he buys, he passes on nine others. What makes the cut: 1. Strong markets close to existing stores. 2. Toyota and Lexus points always draw interest, while GM stores fit their core strengths. 3. A general manager ready to be a partner, often through sweat equity or buy-in. But Morton also knows growth brings its own challenges. And cash flow doesn’t get easier with scale. Bottom line: Gregg Young is still buying in 2025. But not just any store. Only the ones that fit the long game.
