Position Overview

The Field Director assists the Scout Executive with field service management. Is specifically responsible for overall field finance and development, including Friends of Scouting and product sales. Additionally, the Field Director is responsible for personnel recruitment, promotion of activities, and training for field staff personnel. The Field Director has other responsibilities that will result in an increasing number of youth participating in a quality Scouting program.

Responsibilities

  • Give leadership to the effective staffing, organization, development, and implementation of field staff operations. Analyze and deploy the staff resources necessary to align and accomplish the council’s strategic objectives for quality membership growth, fundraising growth, and community relations.
  • Support the Scout Executive with planning and training of staff to equip professional personnel to carry out primary and secondary responsibilities to ensure that the council’s strategic plan is fully incorporated into staff and volunteer planning and goal setting.
  • In partnership with the Scout Executive, provide leadership to increase direct and indirect funding support for the council. Cultivate, recruit, and support council and district-level volunteers to achieve the annual district Friends of Scouting campaign.
  • Manage the budget planning process for district operations. Develop, monitor, and control district budgets to contribute net excess revenue for the council’s operating budget.
  • Assist with the coordination of field relationships with the Scout Executive to ensure maximum results, collaboration, and positive morale throughout the Istrouma Area Council.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Give leadership to the Unit Serving Executives of the assigned service area.
  • Give leadership to result in an increase in direct and indirect support to the council. Serve as the campaign manager for the annual Friends of Scouting campaign. Provide leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers to achieve the campaign goal on time.
  • Serve as staff advisor to critical council committees and ad-hoc task forces as needed.
  • Give leadership to result in membership growth through implementation of the council’s membership plan,
  • Give leadership to result in effective unit service and customer service of stakeholders – including parents, Scouts, leaders, donors, and the community.

Education

  • High school diploma, Bachelor’s, etc.

Qualifications

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: 100% of the time

Motor vehicle, computer, copier, telephone, fax machine, smartphone, audio-visual equipment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS: 100% of time

Physical requirements include reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, computer keyboarding, and driving a motor vehicle. Must be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard and be able to perform repetitive and stretching motions. While in the office, work is usually sedentary. Occasional heavy lifting of boxes, files, and equipment (up to 30 pounds); while working at events and camps, the position has more physical requirements, including lifting of boxes, files, and various equipment (may be up to 50 pounds). Needs to maintain current driver’s license and automotive insurance and drive own personal motor vehicle for council business (to be reimbursed for mileage at .45 a business mile).

Reading, detail work, confidentiality, stress, problem solving, language, training, math, reasoning, verbal communication, written communication, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment, continual change.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 100% of time

The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. When visiting council camps, the employee may be exposed to some special adverse environmental conditions.

Working Relationships, Supervision, Volunteer Relations

Recognize the importance of a good working relationship with other staff members. Recognize the importance of a close and harmonious working relationship with all volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment) and successful experience as a professional Scouting in prior roles.

Essential Skills Required

  • Provide a positive professional example to council staff.
  • Volunteer and youth recruitment skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with top corporate and community leaders.
  • Organizational skills and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Fiscal management and budget development.
  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.

Salary or Salary Range: Negotiable based on experience. Up to $65,000.00.
