Mechanical Engineer- Nuclear Energy - LA
We are working with a a venture-backed hardware startup developing a new class of advanced energy systems designed to deliver reliable power in challenging environments. Their team is building complex, safety-critical mechanical hardware that must perform under demanding structural, thermal, and operational conditions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and integration of critical mechanical systems. This role is hands-on and spans the full product lifecycle—from early concepts and analysis through build, test, and production support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for complex hardware systems
- Perform structural and mechanical analyses using first-principles calculations and FEA tools
- Support system integration, assembly, and testing of prototype and production hardware
- Generate technical documentation, reports, and materials for internal and external design reviews
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, test, and operations
- Support troubleshooting and iteration based on test results and real-world constraints
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, analysis, or hardware development
- Proficiency with CAD and analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar)
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T
- Strong problem-solving ability and clear technical communication skills
- Must be a U.S. person. No sponsorship can be provided for this role.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to power, energy, industrial, aerospace, or heavy mechanical systems
- Experience selecting materials for high-load, high-temperature, or demanding environments
- Hands-on experience with hardware builds, testing, or experimental validation
- Background in one or more focus areas such as structures, mechanisms, heat transfer, or dynamics
- Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, ISO, API, or similar)
- Prior experience in nuclear or highly regulated industries is not required
