 Job Summary

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the smooth and successful operation of the pharmacy department and the maintenance of all business-related functions at his/her respective Center. He/She is responsible to compound and dispense prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceutical items for patient care by performing duties in both the adjudication and production work environments while providing direct supervision of Assistant Pharmacy Managers, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Services Representatives, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Support Specialists. This is NOT a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains a transparent, effective relationship with the Director of Pharmacy and Chief Pharmacy Officer. Supports the organization’s activities, implementing Board-approved policies, and reporting on the financial condition of the Health Center 
  • Fosters an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the company’s mission, vision, and values
  • Maintains all operations of the pharmacy department
  • Dispenses and verifies prescriptions as required
  • Follows all medication guidelines as well as policies and procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, maintaining loss prevention procedures, and avoiding diversion for all inventory including controlled medications
  • Ensures that pharmacy policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations in all prescription related issues, including 340B, HIPAA, SOP, QA, and CQI, are followed
  • Reviews and verifies prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and determine formulas and ingredients needed
  • Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, if applicable
  • Provides counseling on both prescription medications/items and over the counter medications/items per company policy and as required by state and federal law
  • Utilizes patient’s medical record to perform chart reviews and reconcile drug therapy
  • Ensures that all control drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followed
  • Performs trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues
  • Answer the telephone and assist at the front counter to maintain the workflow of the pharmacy
  • Manage and supervise pharmacy staff including: any staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Maintain contact with providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes and promote effective drug therapy
  • Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and uses
  • Identifies and addresses patient-specific barriers to medication adherence and disease state management
  • Conducts one-on-one patient counseling sessions and medication reconciliations
  • Provides disease-state specific education and training to patients, providers, and clinical staff
  • Collaborates with True Health providers to resolve medication-related issues and optimize drug therapy for patients
  • Recommend evidence-based and patient-centered medication treatment plans to providers
  • Promote cost-effective drug therapy recommendations and alternatives, as well as evaluate the appropriateness of high-cost pharmacotherapy
  • Communicate to providers and staff the savings opportunities available at True Health pharmacies 
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance of pharmacy drug inventories
  • Responsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventory
  • Manages pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy department at all times
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals as needed
  • Actively engages patients and clients with respect to customer service programs offered by the pharmacy in an effort to grow pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensed
  • Actively engages patients and clients with respect to program integrations offered by the pharmacy
  • Review MTM-related reports, including HEDIS/STAR reports
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
  • Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory
  • Maintains awareness of third-party Rx systems, resolves third-party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basis
  • Resolves and reports prescription errors immediately and adheres to company policy regarding medication incidents and continuous quality improvement
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with physicians and other health care professionals in order to better assist patients 
  • Delivers accurate reports and assignments on time
  • Participates in all assigned meetings to address patient care and operational requirements, including one-on-one communication
  • Assist with supervision and development of pharmacy staff 
  • Meet with providers, medical staff, and administrative staff to keep them updated on pharmacy operations, updates, pricing changes, drug availability, etc. when requested or necessary
  • Develops and delivers presentations to staff members as assigned
  • Provides support for new pharmacy department initiatives
  • Contributes to projects as needed to support business needs
  • Assist the Director of Pharmacy in the handling of any reporting and auditing requirements
  • Complete all assigned projects and tasks accurately and on time 
  • Responsible for the success of any department inspections
  • Participate in events outside of normal course of business as assigned 
  • Ability to work as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hours
  • Must be able to provide support outside of regular business hours as required to include access outside of regular scheduled hours when needed in regards to the pharmacy department alarm system as well as maintenance that needs to be performed within the department
  • Ensure that all controlled drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followed
  • Performs trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues
  • Responsible for ensuring that all required pharmacy, pharmacist, and pharmacy technician licenses/certifications/registrations are current and valid as required by state, federal and pharmacy guidelines
  • Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and uses
  • Responsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventory
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals as needed
  • Actively engages patients and clients with respect to customer service programs offered by the pharmacy in an effort to grow pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensed
  • Enters all data accurately such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory
  • Implements loss prevention controls and procedures to identify and maximize profit 
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to and staff the pharmacy at other health center locations when necessary
  • Ability to work any work schedule as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hours
  • Provide support outside of regular business hours as required, including the ability to be on call if needed
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and health center closure/reopening procedures as needed
  • Maintains compliance with governmental regulations and industry requirements
  • Enhances operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment, and high-quality patient care
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations
  • Foster and develop partnerships to further the mission of the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: 
    1. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) Required
  • Experience: 
    1. Minimum of five (5) years’ as a licensed pharmacist in a retail environment 
    2. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Ex. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    3. Minimum of three (3) years of MTM experience preferred
    4.  Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience preferred
    5. 340B experience preferred
    6. Bilingual a plus
  • Licenses or Certifications: 
    1. Active pharmacy license in the state of Florida with a current immunization certification
    2. Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) license
  • Criminal Background Clearance:
    1. True Health is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and partners with agencies that require criminal background checks. True Health has established policies and procedures that may influence the overall employment process, hiring, and “just cause” for the termination of employees. An employee’s career could be shortened if there is a violation of any policies and procedures.

Prohibited criminal behavior is defined in Florida Statute (F.S.) 408.809. Any employee arrested for any offense outlined in the F.S.408.809 will be immediately suspended and remain suspended until the charges are disposed of in court. The employee will be terminated for an arrest or conviction of any violation listed above.

 DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENINGS

A post-offer drug and alcohol screen is a requirement for employment. Failure to successfully pass the drug/alcohol screen will be cause for the offer to be rescinded. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol screenings throughout the duration of their employment with True Health. If an employee fails to pass the drug/alcohol screening, then this shall become grounds for discipline up to and including immediate termination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The employee is subject to prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee will work as the needs of the operation require. Normal work days and hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am - 6pm and Fridays, 8am - 12pm; however, there will be times when the employee will need to come in or work on “off hours” or “off days” to meet the needs of the position.
