Brief Description
Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for providing healthcare patient services aligned with education, training, competency, experience and demonstrates knowledge related to scope of practice. This job description serves as a practice agreement and will be reviewed annually by the physician assistant and collaborating/supervising licensed physician. Job Functions
Assesses, diagnoses, provides and implements a treatment plan of care and follow up as needed.
Performs physical examinations.
Interprets and evaluates patient date.
Orders, performs or reviews diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Provides instructions regarding patient care, disease prevention, and health promotion.
Creates and maintains appropriate patient records including transmitting or executing specific orders.
Prescribes, administers and dispenses medications, controlled substances and medical devices as appropriate.
Initiates evaluation and treatment procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to emergency situations.
Works directly with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to obtain DEA registration.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Nurse Practitioner program
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to effectively handle high stress fast paced environment
Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
Ability to multi-task
Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
License/Certifications
Current Minnesota Nuse Practitioner licensure or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
BLS and PALS Certification
NRP Certification within 60 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Two years previous NP or PA experience in pediatrics
