Placement groups - Amazon EC2 Tutorial
From the course: Amazon EC2 Essential Training
Placement groups
- [Instructor] Now, let's talk about an interesting topic: placement groups. Imagine that you're launching multiple EC2 instances. How will AWS deploy these instances on the underlying hardware? Will all the instances share the same underlying hardware, or will the instances be spread across distinct underlying hardware? By default, when you're launching EC2 instances, you do not have control over how AWS deploys them on the underlying hardware, but you can influence this using placement groups. Placement groups allow you to influence the placement of instances on the underlying hardware. This can be useful for use cases, like achieving low latency or reducing the likelihood of failure. For example, you may want to pack your instances closely together to achieve low latency, or spread them across distinct underlying hardware to reduce the likelihood of failure. By default, the EC2 service attempts to place instances…
