- [Narrator] The next purchasing option is probably the most interesting one, Spot Instances. Spot Instances are unused EC2 instances available at less than the On-Demand price. Spot Instances are available at steep discounts, allowing you to lower your EC2 usage costs. In some cases, Spot Instances may be available at up to 90% discount compared to On-Demand Instances. Now let's understand how you can request a Spot Instance. AWS sets the hourly price of Spot Instances, and this is known as the Spot price. When you're requesting a Spot Instance, you're required to provide your maximum price per hour. If the maximum price you're willing to pay per hour exceeds the Spot price, the request is fulfilled. Here is an example. Let's say the Spot price for an EC2 instance is $0.80 per hour. This is set by AWS. The maximum price you're willing to pay is $0.65 per hour.
