- There's an experience I had years ago that has stuck with me to this day. I was in a meeting one Friday morning with two of my colleagues who happened to be white males. During our discussion, one of my colleagues kept interrupting me. He'd ask a question, and when I started to answer, he'd cut me off to share his own thoughts. It was frustrating to me that he kept interrupting me but I didn't feel like pointing it out since he was in a more senior role. After yet another interruption, my other colleague stopped him and said, "I think Janice was saying something. Can we go back to what she was saying?" I share this story often because it's not what was said but how that made me feel. In that moment, I felt seen and validated.
