- What I want to do to really prepare you for some of the topics we're going to be talking about throughout the rest of this course is focus on DevOps and the cloud and the relation of these to one another and why it's so important. So the first thing to keep in mind is that development is often cloud-native today. And what that means is we're developing our applications with the intention that they will run in the cloud. And because of that and the fact that they're optimized for that, it means that if we tried to run them offline, it would be very cost-prohibitive and difficult to do. And one of the reason for that is that within the cloud environment, you can have many different microservices running in your cloud account, and your application can use all those. But on a local network, you might need to deploy 10, 12 servers costing you 3 to $4,000 a piece to run all that, and then just your power bill alone…
