- Computer store data, your data. What happens if the hard drive where your files and folders are located dies, or there's a catastrophic occurrence like a fire? If your computer dies, it's easy to replace the computer. But what about your unique data? That is where backups come into play. So backups, what are they? As the name implies, it is the backup in case something happens to the original. What would happen if you lost your important documents, pictures or videos? However you do backups, it is important to have them on different media or in a different location. Here's a favorite meme of mine that is a perfect example of why you want to have your backups in another location. The server has crashed. Where's the backup? It's on the server. That might pose a problem. Wouldn't you agree? There are many ways to back up files, so let's look at a few options. First, let's talk about local storage.
