- There's a lot of good content about empathy. What we're talking about in this course is empathy from a logical critical thinking perspective. I like what Spock's father Sarek explained on Star Trek. Logic offers a serenity humans seldom experience. The control of feelings so they don't control you. From a critical thinking perspective, where we're testing the validity of our conclusions, challenging our assumptions and trying to get closer to the truth, whether or not it supports what we want to believe, maximizing the benefits we get from empathy requires an examination of empathies downside. What? Stick with me. Let's start with a common definition of empathy, an ability to understand what another person is going through.
