Introduction to the course
- Hi, and welcome to CFI's course on Economics for Financial Advisors. My name is Meeyeon, and I'm a Director of Content Development here at CFI. Your instructor today is Mark Ristich. He spent over 15 years in finance working in wealth management and capital markets, and happens to have studied economics in university. This course is near and dear to his heart, because besides applying these concepts in his day-to-day career, he has a degree in the topic, and a personal interest in this subject that goes well beyond work. This course will give you the knowledge to analyze and interpret economic data, and formulate your own economic views. We'll start by laying the foundation and discussing what economics exactly is. Then, we'll discuss the fundamentals, drivers of decision making, GDP, and business cycles. Then, we will dive into understanding specific parts of the business cycle. We will talk in depth about recessions, and the entities that can influence economic outcomes, like governments and central banks. This will then lead us to the discussion of monetary policy and inflation, which are pivotal to understanding the health of an economy. And lastly, we'll highlight some key economic indicators published regularly to indicate the state of an economy. You'll apply what you've learned by interpreting financial data and applying it to a portfolio allocation shift. We've got a lot of exciting material to cover, so let's not keep Mark waiting.
